Root [MetroPCS & T-Mobile] process.gapps error... help!

mewinckler

Lurker
I rooted my phone 2 weeks ago and i am unable access Google play. I think i might have uninstalled Google talk or some program like that. I get the error ".process.gapps" has unexpectedly quit every time i try to open Google play . I've already checked to see if any/all programs are disabled (they 're not), cleared caches, I've factory reset, hard reset, and attempted all of the supposed remedies posted on these subject boards. I cannot update or download anything! Please help

This is why you do not remove any applications in the system.
If you feel you must, install LTE2 Recovery App and make a Nandroid backup. This is still risky since we do not have a custom recovery to boot into. The above program will let you restore the backup as long as the phone still boots.

Have you checked to see if the apk's and odex files are still there? If not I will zip all the google apps for you.
I did attempt to re-install Google apps 4.1 (found a posted version to DL, not sure it was metro/t-mobile), but some files worked and some did not. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what APK I'm supposed to replace to remedy the problem. The error "unfortunately the process com.google. process.gapps has stopped" continues to pop up whenever Google play tries to open, I restart my phone, or browse thru my settings.
Also, btw, I managed to kill my brand new(less than 1month old) 16gb sd card! I'm not sure it's because of all of the resetting of the OS, but it's been rendered unreadable.

Do you have the card problem when you place the card into a laptop or desktop?
I'd try reformatting it in windows.

I don't know what I'm missing because the only backup i can access is from my last phone which ran 2.3 os. The only backup for my LG F3 was on the sd card that died (it doesn't work anywhere- I tried it in my laptop, card reader, different phone= Nothing even registers at all).
I'm slowly going nuts not being able to download/ update anything. I guess I never realized how often my phone updated programs and how addicted I am to playing numerous games on my phone! I am extremely reliant on Google play and Feel like I've completely failed because I messed my phone up.
Would you really be able to zip the files for me, please? I really appreciate it! Would you also give me instructions on how i should install the files (do I DL them to my laptop, then transfer to phone? Do i need special program for my computer to do the install? Or can i drag+drop files directly from computer to phone?) I know i sound like a total noob, but I'm baffled. I've successfully rooted 2 other phones without any problems ( Huawei and Samsung), but leave it to me to screw up this time. Meh.

Google unbrick lg motion, read the guide a few times. Everything is done on the PC.

How can you unbrick a phone if you have to do everything with the phone?
Come on, use a little common sense ;)

You don't have to be condescending, I've already admitted that i don't know what I'm doing. Sorry to insult your superior knowledge by asking for help. But thanks for the advice, I'll read the unbrick phone posting.

Sorry for the late reply I work a lot so don't have much time to play here.

Download and install root explorer if you already haven't. Download the zip file here.

Google_backup[1]

Once downloaded copy the zip to your internal storage, If you don't have an external sd. Then open up your root explore navigate to your internal storage [sdcard0]

Once there move the zip to root/system/app and unzip. Then simply restart your phone and try to use google play. Hope this helps.

What file manager are you using?

If you are using root explorer, simply press the button up top that says "Mount R/W"

If you are using ES File Explorer, press the button at the top left (looks like a globe and a phone) to open the menu, then press on "Tools", scroll down to "Root Explorer". If the button says "Off" press it to turn on root access.

You should now have root access and can paste the zip.

Thanks man. I pasted the zip and extracted the files... Im still getting the error. I wonder if the op figured it out.

Here is a question... Would I be able to buy an identical phone and somehow create a back up and install it on my phone?
