Root [MetroPCS] Will rooting my S4 allow me to tether?

laroLARO

Newbie
I have stock 4.2.2, from MetroPCS. Never upgraded it because at the time I heard that it was tougher to root/downgrade on kitkat (don't know if thats necessarily true anymore...), but I think I'm about ready now.

A few questions actually. First, which version of android will allow me to tether after rooting? And if either, are there any advantages or disadvantages to staying on 4.2.2 or upgrading to kitkat as far as rooting difficulty?

Any opinions or help greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

You should be able to tether just fine on 4.2.2 with foxfi if you don't have it yet without needing root.

Or you could root and use "WiFi tether for root users" (free app btw).

It's better to stay on 4.2 as far as rooting goes since Knox was implemented on 4.3, that's why I never bothered upgrading my s3 to 4.3. I've heard there are work around to not trip the Knox bootloader but staying on 4.2 makes your life more simpler.

Thanks a bunch DragonSlayer. I couldn't remember why, but tripping that bootloader was the main thing thay swayed me from updating. Bout to give that foxfi a try, but on a side note.. Is there any way to get the mobile data tab in my notifications bar? The MetroPCS models seem to not have it at all
