Help MHL adapter help/discussion

So why does it take a full 100% battery for this MHL converter to keep the phone adequately powered? It's like 100% is the threshold and the converter can top the battery off. If the battery is lower than that it's a different ball game.

I don't experience that - do you have that happening on the phone with the energy saver or something similar going? I think you mentioned that earlier.

Even while on the charger, the phone runs off of the battery.

I'd have to guess that is either the processing load changed for those two cases or the battery isn't right.

Which phone, if the 3vo, how old?

It happens with the EVO 3D. And the 3D does not have energy or power saver mode. I haven't tried it yet with the HTC One yet because I'm always playing with my One "so to speak." I'll readily assume the same thing will happen to the One if I top the battery off at 100%.

The Amazon dealer gave me the website for the manufacturer. I'll ping those guys about it as well.

I purchased my 3D in 2011 when it first came out.

Is your 3D holding charge as it always has? That could be the battery, hard to say. Mine doesn't act that way.

When a phone hits 100%, the charging circuit shuts down and doesn't kick back in until it hits roughly 96% (92% for HTC in 2010, about 96% since 2011.)

They don't trickle change (constant low level charge at 100%) as a required safety feature. If they did, your battery would literally ignite.

When your 3D is truly at 100% when you plug it in then by the time you've finished watching, it'll have spent less time letting charging power in than the same session beginning at 90%. Hence my question about which battery and its age.

Sorry about the energy saver thing, I was following best I could. :o

My 3D can hold a charge at idle for 7 days before needing a recharge. It's a great phone still to this day. I'll post what the company has to say about their converter.

Thanks for trying to figure this one out.

I wonder if it's the same adapter I got from monoprice. Seems to me that same adapter is getting repackaged by almost everyone. Monoprice believes that you don't need a charger with the 3D, we know that's bogus.

I still am surprised that you can't get the MHL spec unless you're a consortium member. I've been using chip datasheets and working backwards since I first got mine.

ive an actual MHL branded adapter. got it direct from the consortium...

I recall you were the first to get one while we were trying to figure out how to spell it. :)

Mine came with a piece of paper that said it conformed to the spec, but that was a budget production. Still, it's worked well for me. I've yet to go wrong with monoprice swag.

I have an HTC One and a Moto G. I'm having a hard time with both getting MHL connection. Yes, I'm powering up the phone. Basically nothing comes through on the screen, as if I didn't even make the physical connection. Any thoughts?

The Moto G doesn't have an MHL port so it's never going to work, sorry.

When you say that you're powering up the phone, do you mean that you have power connected to your MHL adapter?

I came across this a few days ago whilst trying to solve issues i'd got with the MHL adapter and not being recognised.

it had worked for a long time, and then didnt, i thought the wire was broke so ordered a new one, same thing. After hours of searching for the answer i struggled to find something to solve it - other than factory reset - which i didnt want to do. and something about plane mode, not useful if streaming (didnt work anyway)

solution: - clear all cache on all apps, downloaded an app to clear all the cache on the phone... solved! frustratingly simple, could have saved myself
