Micro SD card speed

Hello,

I am sorry if this is a repeated question. I am about to get SanDisk 32GB micro SD card from Amazon for my Galaxy Note. It doesn't say what class it is, but I think it is probably class 2. Besides the transfer speed of transfering files from PC, does higher class SD card make any difference while it is being used on the phone such as recording video? Is it worth paing extra for faster card?

Btw, this is my very first Android phone. I finally switched from iPhone:)

Thanks

Class 2 is good enough for 16 megabits per second. Anyone know the bitrate of 1080p video on the Note?

Class2 is means it write atleast at 2mb/sec, not how fast it read, which can be faster. However, I can't recommend class 2 with anything, its just too slow. You will spend literally hours waiting for the transfer to complete.

"Anyone know the bitrate of 1080p video on the Note?" That depends on the video itself. Some videos can go up to 20mbps which is 2.5MB/s, which is very high quality. Technically, if a Class 2 card write at 2mbps, but can read at 4mbps, it would play the 20mbps 1080p video. Realistically, it probably will not be good a experience, because it also depends on the speed of the microSD slot of your phone, it depends on if the file is fragmented in your microSD. Experiences tells me to get smooth viewing, its better to get at least Class 4.

I recommend Class 6 or Class 10 however. If you are a hurry, but have to wait 30min to 1hour for files to transfer, then its worth paying a little more to get something faster.

The question is how much money you want to spent. On the phone all classes are fine. Even the class 2 but try to avoid it get a 4 instead. The only thing you have check is the transfer rates from pc to you external sd card so if you copy all the time files a 10 is A must so you don't wait to long to get transferred as you go down on classes you will get higher times to transfer them, so if you can wait and you don't copy 3-4 times a week 3-10gb files to your phone then a class 4 is ok I would say. But think this leaving your pc working it gets you a higher electricity bill, atm min is A 650watt power supply on the pc's so in 2 hours you have spend 1,3KWh at least for Germany this costs near 36.8 cents euro. A 9gb on a class 10 sd they need 45minutes with usb on the phone dunno with adapter and a card reader, it should be faster. Make your math for a year or 2 if it is worth for you
