Help Micro SDHC card discussion for the Evo 3D.

I am having a problem with the 32 Gb SD card. I have been using an 8 Gb card and my 3D movies worked fine (Avatar, for instance), however the space of course was limited. Now, with my upgrade to a 32 Gb card, I can't get the movies to work. I loaded them onto the card directly from my PC, replaced the card into the phone. It showed the movie, but without any icon picture and it would not play. The Sprint rep told me the file was "too big" to play. The EVO 3D could not play a movie file larger than 1.8 Gb. Most of my 3D movies are around 2.5 - 3 Gb in size.

Then, to top it off, suddenly the phone doesn't recognize the card at all. I have cycled through re-formatting the card several times only to get the same result.

Can anyone speak to the file size issue? I was able to watch a cartoon (328 mb) in 3D just fine, as well as a 2D movie (383 mb), but the 3D movie (2.8 GB) would not play.

I appreciate any feedback that can be provided.

I have a 32gb class 10 microsdhc card and have a few movies, all over 2gb and have no issues playing them. What class is your card? did you format in windows or by phone?

Hi, welcome to the forums!

I've merged your topic with our pre-existing Micro SD discussion thread. No worries, it's fine that you didn't know it existed. It was buried in a few pages :p. But here you'll find recommendations based on what users want.

But if you just want a high capacity SD card for normal use (nothing high speed for movies or large file transfers) then a class 4 will be more than adequate, IMO.

Stick with Sandisk, Transcent, Kingston and/or Lexar. Do not buy from eBay or Craigslist, those are often counterfeit. Only buy from reputable vendors like Amazon, Newegg, etc.

If you have other needs, I recommend reviewing this thread for more information.

Hi, i m buying a new micro sd for my new evo 3d (moving on from n900). i need a 32 gb sd and these are the only models that i could find where i live:

  • kingston 32 gb class 4, worth around $40
  • teamgroup 32 gb class 6, worth around $32.5
  • transcend 16 gb class 10, worth around @24.5

So which one of these should i get, i really need a 32 gb, but i m also concerned about the speed as i want to record and watch hd videos flawlessly and also not to have a lagging phone.

The sandisk on from my post (just above your post) is still available - just $22.45

The general consensus on this thread seems to be that class 4 should suffice. (I don't know for sure because I haven't used a class 4 on my EVO - I have a class 10 - but the other folks on this thread have used class 4 and it seems to be work fine for them.

Edit: just noticed you said you want to watch/record HD movies. I'm not sure a class 4 would suffice for large HD movie files. Personally, I'd splurge and get a class 6 or class 10 - hopefully, others will chime in.

Newegg has several 32GB Class 10 from respectable manufacturers (PNY, Patriot) available starting at about $37 (personally, I'd stay away from "Team" and "wintec"

well i have never bought anything from the internet before and i dont have any accounts which i can use even if i wanted to. So i m stuck with the three options i just listed.
Also why should i stay away from "Team" cause i was thinking of getting it as it is a 32gb class 6 card and it has a two year warranty

I tend to avoid purchasing products that don't have many (good) reviews on the websites that I usually purchase from - just because I don't know how good that product is. Warranty claim process can vary significantly from company to company
To answer your question though, no, I don't have a bad experience with Team or Wintec (I've never used them because for just about the same price - or cheaper at times, I can get one of the more common/reviewed brands). So, sure, go ahead and get it.

Assuming you are comfortable with the Team brand, why even look at Kingston (higher cost, less speed)? You should be looking at the Team Vs transcend (depending on how much storage you need really. Class 6 should suffice for most needs - again, "I" don't know how good the team brand products are.)

Not sure where you are located, but if you have a Frys store nearby, they have a Patriot 32GB Class 10 microSDHC today for $28 (after $5 mail in rebate)

Ah, that explains why ordering online from US based sites would not be practical!
Sorry about my earlier posts with links to all these US based sites.. Doh!

But yeah, look at what's available locally - of course. Class 6 or above preferably. Review your storage needs. If you are going to store movies on your card, note that these can take up a decent chunk of storage (1GB+)

HTH :)

I just happen to read this thread earlier because I was having the same issue a few months ago but I am in the US and wanted to purchase a Samsung 16GB Plus Micro SD Memory Card- Class 10 (Top of the Line SD Card in my opinion)

  • waterproof
  • Outstanding shock proof withstanding the pressure of a 1.6 tonne vehicle
  • Safe from magnetic force
From a Website Based in Europe who would not even ship to the US. So I actually had to wait a month until Amazon got a hold of it. So MagicalKobra I can give you a 4th option on a purchase. Just pick up a Visa/Mastercard prepaid or gift card with the amount you would need on it. Go to that Cards site and register it with YOUR info (important for a later process) Then go to Play.com and find the SD card you want (I have the one above and the read/write speeds blow all others out of the water, its in my EVO 3D and I watch 3D/HD movies and games flawlessly) Now on play.com they only take foreign currency (no USD) and they only ship to countries in your part of the world, so add to cart, checkout and pay with the prepaid you bought and make sure you enter the exact information you registered the card with and you should be all good. Oh and they do offer a Samsung 32GB Class 10 version of this which is offered on amazon.uk but again, this site is based in your part of the world, and yes the same process above would work on that site too.

i have a major problem now and i need some help.

I have had the phone with me for a week now and purchased the team group 32 gb class 6 microSD and everything worked very good.

But for some reason now the memory card is not functioning well. whenever i try to copy files to it, it copies some and then gives me this error

I tried formating the sd several times. Used different pcs. Tried to copy files using the phone itself and also using a memory card reader but i still get the same error.

Can someone help me plz

2TB on a mobile device would be insane...I need it! :p It's amazing where technology is going. 2TB of information on something so small is just crazy.

Then I could FINALLY use my phone as my primary music player. I'm so sick of having to manage the music on my 160gb iPod... I guess Apple gives no shits about people that care about music since they still haven't upped capacity in like 6 years... It'd be awesome to not have to carry around a phone AND an iPod.

Edit: Just realized I quoted a post from a year ago. Meh, oh well.

Has anyone ever gotten around to installing a 64gig card? I remember sometime last year around this time (or later), some guy was successful in installing a 64gig card in his first gen EVO.

Not that I plan on doing so at this point, but I was just curious to know if anyone else has followed in his footsteps.
