Help Microphone Broken

NickAVV

Newbie
Hey guys. So I got an LG Ally for Christmas, and I love it so much over my old Droid Eris. There's only one problem, which happens to be dealbreaking.. and that's the microphone being muffled to the point where the only way to make any sound register is to press your lips to the mouthpiece and shout. And even then it is very quiet over the air during a call for example. This makes using the phone as a phone impossible. Is there any way that the mic in this could be physically damaged? I've factory reset a few times in vain hope that it was software.

Thanks,
Nick

Have you covered the hole with anything? Taken the protective film off yet? Is there a case on it? If al of this is no - then I would recommend taking the phone back for warranty exchange - Its definitely a bad mic.

There is no protective coating or case. It wasn't a new device either, bought off the internet. According to Verizon this means I have no warranty, manufacturer or otherwise. Anyways, I figured as much, thanks.

Call LG directly, dont tell them you bought it off the internet, if its still in the warranty time they will warranty it.

I had a similar problem with my ally when I bought it, give it about 2 weeks and I dropped it. After the drop, my mic didn't work at all. I called LG directly and they replace my phone within 3 days. They even test called it 3 way from their place and they can hear me talk on one phone and not on my ally. Now it's a working beast with the replacement! :)

I agree that you should have warranty. I don't even think the Ally has been out long enough to be out of warranty. Verizon shouldn't be stonewalling you on this. I would either call back and ask for a manager, or contact LG (the latter is probably going to give better luck).
