Help MicroSD card not being recognized

Hey, I've had my HTC Desire Z for just over 7 months and just this week it wouldn't let me access my gallery because it said that there was no SD card inserted. I tried restarting my phone, taking out the card and reinserting it to no avail. After a few tries my phone stopped working completely and wouldn't turn on (it would freeze at the white screen with HTC written in green across the middle). When I finally got it to work again, the same error message with my card appeared. The next day I went and bought a new card and a SanDisk adapter. The new card works fine but my old microSD card is still not working in my phone or on the computer as nothing comes up. I have 500 pictures on that card that I need to get back so is there anyway to do that or is my old card completely gone? Thanks!

I'm afraid it sounds like the card is fried, sorry. You may be able to recover some of the data with recovery software designed (for example) to restore deleted images in digital cameras. Another option is a specialist data recovery company but their services don't come cheap.

I'm going with Slug on this.

You may have a defective memory to start with. On the other hand, flash memory is most vulnerable when data is being written to it. One such situation is when you take pictures with the battery almost low. In many cases, running the phone down to close to empty could cause the flash memory to fail when for instance, data being written to it is interrupted due to low battery voltage or the phone shutting down abruptly.
