Microsoft Outlook & SD Mounting

I apologize in advance if this has been answered already but my search revealed nothing.

Question:

Does Microsoft Outlook need to be installed on a computer before that computer will recognize the phone so the SD can be mounted for file transfers back and forth?

I have tried to mount the SD on my wifes' HERO with no luck while its attached to her lappy. She does not have Outlook installed on that lappy. I do however on my pc and my pc recognizes the phone, allows me to Mount and Un-Mount the SD and transfer files. Anyone experiencing this?

No, Outlook should not need to be installed.

I'm no computer expert... but sounds like a driver issue to me.
 
My thoughts also, Thx my friend. Now any ideas? I have the driver installed but the lappy still doesn't see the SD as a drive. Also tried 3 different USB cables and sockets on the lappy.
 
What OS is she using?

have you tried installing HTC Sync on her laptop to see of that helps?
 
Have Sync installed and didn't help plus I understand that to mount the SD on the phone and transfer files back and forth to her lappy, HTC's Sync program doesn't need to be installed at all.. Once I get home I will check her phone to make sure the Debugging is checked. It needs to be to connect according to what I have read..then the saga continues.

What driver would I look for on the Lappy Manufacturers (HP) website?

Outlook is not needed at all. No drivers are needed for mounting the SD card. I mount it on Linux with no issues and I can assure you that HTC Sync isn't installed and Outlook hasn't even come close to being installed. You also don't need USB Debugging checked to mount the SD card.

Plug in the phone, pull down notifications, and click the "USB Connected - Select to copy files to/from your computer." and the SD card mounts just like any other USB device. It requires no drivers and no extra software beyond your base Windows install.
