Migrating from the Charge

Hi Nexus folks :p

Despite still having a few months left on my Verizon contract, I have purchased a Nexus 4 and plan on sticking my Droid Charge in a closet somewhere ASAP. The Charge was an OK phone but it's definitely showing it's age nowadays, being completely infuriatingly slow when web browsing and doing... lots of other stuff as well.

Anyway, my plan is to hit up T-Mobile for their $30/month pre-paid plan for the data and texting, as that comprises about 99% of what I use my phone for and I'm gonna save a TON of money in the process. Currently paying ~$90/month for Verizon so I'll be saving $60/month, which is outstanding. Oh and if I don't like my service... I'll switch somewhere else!

FREEDOOOOMMM:smokingsomb:

Anyway, I'm super excited about joining the Nexus club. I've had enough headaches rooting/romming/hacking my Charge. Looking forward to a totally unlocked and easily rooted Nexus. Oh and those delicious Android updates being pushed out to my phone on Day 1.

Just went through the process of reverting to the stock ROM, getting the OTAs so I could flash the latest version of the "Tweaked" ROM on my Charge. Forgot about the brown/gold color scheme. Man I won't miss that either lmao!

No poop theming will be a good thing!

I did, however, find that the battery lasted longer on my Charge (at least from what memory serves).

Enjoy the N4!!!

Google said 2-3 weeks to ship but I just got an email this morning confirming that my order was on-route! Woo!

Congrats dude! You made a great choice. I can't stop talking about people sticking it to Verizon and I'm glad to see you're doing this. You will notice that T-Mobile's network isn't as built out in some areas but saving that $60 a month it's very much worth it. I use that plan on my Note 2 while using AT&T on my Nexus 4. Keep us up to date with your experience!

Well I got my Nexus 4.

Holy crap! This thing rocks. It's so fast and responsive, the 4.2.2 build features are really awesome. I really like the recent apps button and the notification pull-down with the double finger pulldown to open the power options for your bluetooth, etc... The lockscreen widgets are genius and google now is advancing by itself in a way that is alsmost creepy :afraid: I don't miss the menu button at all.

The GPS is way better than my Charge (which eventally just stopped working altogether) and well... everything about this phone is amazing.

The screen is really good. Don't miss not having a 1080p screen at all (I used a Droid DNA and it was really sweet but I don't at all regret not getting that Verizon Bloatmachine).

The only criticism I have is that I'm used to the pitch black blacks and vivid color reproduction of my Charge's OLED screen. That said, the Nexus screen is in no way bad. It's actually extremely good.

Overall I'm very satisfied. I haven't used it with a Data connection yet but the battery has been good for me. I actually tethered my Nexus to my Charge and used the Nexus to play my Google Play music library for about 2 hours and while the Charge was basically melting down the Nexus stayed cool and the battery did not drain nearly as much as I expected it to. :thrasher:
