Root mik and battery issue

Lurker
Hey guys im new to the forum but have been lurking for a while. This is the second time ive rooted my phone and im running the latest mikrom but i am having terrible battery issues. I can just watch the battery number go down in the top right corner as im using the phone and i just placed a call for about one minute and it dropped 10 to 20 percent. also my uptime used to be extremely close to my awake time earlier today and yesterday as i jsut flashed this yesterday but now the gap is pretty far. Is it just the rom or maybe something else that i didnt do on the phone?

Welcome to the Forums!!

It may be a rogue app running in the background. I would do a restart and see if that helps. You can try using Spareparts and check what's been satying awake. It's probably in your app drawer.

Also if you just flashed it may take a day or so for your Rom to settle down on your phone. If after a couple of days it doesn't improve you could try another one of the Sense GB Kernels.
Hope that helps,

Naters

Your up time and awake time are NOT supposed to be close together. If they are, you are experiencing wake lock issues and that would explain your battery getting killed.

Also, I would look into flashing a custom kernel if you havent already flashed one I would suggest Aggressive Freedom Universal.

yeah i know the uptime and awake time are not supposed to be close together but currently they are extremely spread out. uptime is 19:51 right now and awake time is 7:16

i didnt run superwipe i think its called before i initially flashed this rom could that be the problem?

I'm experiencing the same thing, and i did super wipe. It's ironic i found this thread right now because I'm watching my battery drop almost 1% a minute while it's on.

I've done all of that but the kernel. I'll try it tomorrow. If any mik g users have kernel recommendations I'd appreciate it. I really just want to get up and running smooth again. I was using mik froyo until yesterday and happy. Hope mik g maks me even happier eventually or at the last as happy.

Your not going to match froyo battery levels just because gingerbread is a bit more battery intensive. However, flash lithids aggressive freedom kernel found in the ROM & Kernel download page.

If your not happy, hopefully you made a nandroid that you can always fall back on.

Well I'll tolerate a little less battery life but I'm hoping a kernel improves things significantly. I have a nand of mik froyo but I'd rather not go back to a ROM with carrier IQ.

unfortunately im having the same dam problem and its pissing me off. im a big fan of mike g sense roms. right now im running mikg 2.59 on chopsuey kernel 9.2.7 witch is running alot better then the lithids agressive kernel i had. man that one sucked juice. in like a 2 hours my phone was dead

For the suggestion on the kernel, I have had extremely great result with Goldenmonkey. But as many people will tell you here, everyone phone reacts differently to kernels. A lot of people run aggressive freedom kernel and have good results. My phone for some reason hates that kernel and will pretty much freeze up on me. Try aggressive first since that's what a lot of people use and wait at least a week to see how the phone reacts. It takes time for the phone to get accustomed to the change. After a week if you don't like the results try another one and repeat the steps. Hope this helps.

Battery drain is always really bad the first day or two when you flash a new kernel or rom. The system needs to "settle" in. Work your way through the different kernels until you find one that your phone likes.

Every once in a while the battery still drops like a rock regerdless of kernels. There is another fix we can try if this is seen. I'll reserve this as a last resort because we need to make sure it's not kernel related first. Please just try out the kernels, then we'll see if the fix is required. Post back over the next few days with your kernel results then we'll go from there. :)

i had the same issue. i was running mikrom 2.61 and ver 3.0 and my battery life sucked...tried alot of methods but honestly nothing worked,i decided to try out a new rom and now my battery life is so much better, and i use my phone alot..

Ive been running the aggressive Freedom Kernel on Mik2.61 for about 4 days now with CPU gov set to smartass, I even switched back to my stock battery, and I'm getting about 14 + hours out of it with moderate to heavy use, I also notice battery life seems to be better if charged via USB vs. AC, I know several have mentioned that before, but it does seem to work...any one know why?

I have a few guesses, but nothing scientific. I think its a difference with DC current vs AC current. I'm probably completely wrong! :p

I havent messed with digital electronics since my JR year at college.

14+ hours of heavy useage is pretty much standard for the stock battery with the new GB roms. If you want to get more may I suggest this thread:

I'm really suprised some folks are having battery problems with this rom. May have to downgrade some pri's. :o

Yeah there's no way I'm going to get 14 hours out of this with light use. I'm curious.

Have you tried The freedom kernels yet?
SetCPU. Screen off profile. Smartass gov'nor or interactive x.

Also there are a few tricks with the phone settings you can use to help.

Turn the automatic brightness settings off. Set screen brightness to about 30 to 40%

Turn auto sync off. I use a widget called auto sync widget by curve fish. It turns off all sync elements until I hit the switch, then it turns on all syncs.

Turn 4G off unless you're using it at that moment.

If you have a good wifi connection use it! Wifi uses less battery than 3G.
Also you can turn 3G (mobile data) off and on when needed.

There's more I'm sure but I cant think of them atm.

4 1/2+ hours since unplug and down 5%!!! [minimal phone usage during the time]

MikG 2.61 ROM
GoldenMonkey Kernel
SetCPU 998 max; 245 min
Data OFF
Brightness 30-40%

Not including your initial 1-10% drop-off after unplugging it as a result of the battery correcting itself to represent the true charge ;).

Absolutely correct! AGAIN!!!!!! :mad::mad::p

The first 10% will absolutely drop faster than 1% per hour. I really hope we get some sbc kernels. They get rid of the dreaded 10% drop. :(

I wouldn't hold my breath. Lithid has moved onto the iPhone and I think Barnacles has moved to the Nexus S.
