Root MILESTONE 2.1 update and root guide

HELLO!!!

newb user here!

Two questions:

1. I have a telus milestone on AT&T. Im trying to root it, and i HAVE to do the .sbf flash because of the signed bootloader. Will loading the telus .sbf mess anything up since im on ATT?? Its already unlocked and ive been using it for several weeks now.

2. Telus GPS sever address:

hslp_address = supl.telusmobility.com:7275
default_hslp_address = supl.telusmobility.com:7275

From what I understand, if I could change these lines to something like:

hslp_address = supl.google.com:7276
default_hslp_address = supl.google.com:7276

is this true?? if so... how do i change it? i would like my aGPS to lock faster, instead of taking up to 2 minutes.

-any help is greatly appreciated.
You will need to change those lines in BOTH of the following files:

\etc\location.cfg
\data\location\location.cfg

Once you do your aGPS will lock in about 15 seconds or less. You will need root access to do this and a program called "Root Explorer" which can be purchased in the Android market.

Hey Guys .. -> i've read everything in this threat.. this isn't the first thread i was trying to understand

I've already had a rooted version of Android 2.1-update1 -> it was made by an person called goddchen or sth. like that. But because of the bugs i had to remove it and i flashed the orignial 2.1 back

Now i want to get froyo and i need superuser access for several programs but, in every threat, every file and every suggestion .. -> fail!

I flashed the Central europe sbf -> i manually rebooted it and i flashed the sbf which grants the verification of update.zip.

In both cases -> PASS!

Reboot -> select update.zip -> which error message shows up? exactly that message with veritication.

I dont know what i'm doing wrong.. thats so .. annoying.. you are looking forward.. "yeah this time it will work" -> ):
:confused: ..

what can i do?

best wishes
luca

Read my post on the last page. after you flash the vulnrability, don't let it boot back into android (so copy the update.zip before you flash the vulnrability), hold down the up on the d-pad, it will still report a pass, turn the phone off and boot straight into recovery. It should apply then

i have a mac.. what do i do?
You will need Windows to use RSDLite. You can either use vmware or use a friend's PC.

I use Windows 7 but I flashed the vulnerable recovery using Windows XP running in vmware cause RSDLite wouldn't work in Windows 7. I later found out that it needed to be run in Windows Vista compatibility mode to work properly in Windows 7.

Now i just need to get rid of my fears of bricking and go through with it!

You're not meant to keep hold of up. You're meant to keep hold of it until it lights up...

Great tutorial and it worked just fine on my Telus Milestone and it kept the 3G.

My question is, how would I un-root the phone and set it back to factory default for warranty and such?

Would I just use the re-flash with the original SBF file and not use the update.zip file then redo a Factory Reset through the phones setting?

Hooray I have root, it works perfectly and I still have 3G!!

I am a total Newbie here, got my Telus Milestone this week. What SFB of Telus should I be using; Service or Non-Service? Will Non-Service bascially wipe out any setting on my phone to date? If someone can clarify the differences between the two and which one I should be using, it would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having trouble getting RSD lite to recognize the sbf files. It RSD lite doesn't recognize .gz and that is exactly what every sbf files ends in. I tried deleting the .gz at the end, leaving just .sbf but then RSD would report an error verifying the file. Starting the flash would also fail. Anyone's got a solution?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just re-read the whole thread and realize .gz is a compressed file.

I've been having the same problem, just wandering which program did you use to uncompressed gzip? because I tried everything

Finally rooted, I Found a solution for peoples who's phone are using bootloader 90.78.
If your boot loader is 90.78 pls use this recovery only sbf link: Vulnerable recovery for Motorola Milestone - root any known firmware version | android.doshaska.net

then follow all the normal steps and it should work!

1) Flash the recovery-only sbf with RSD
2)Extract any Openrecovery to the root of your sdcard
2)Afterflashing, go to your recovery(for bootloader 90.78, hold X and power on, then camera + Vol up)
3)Run update.zip
4)From there you can do nandroid backup and root your phone

Hoped i helped =)

Btw i have a question, i did a Nandroid back up just before rooting my phone, does that mean if i restore the backup my phone will be unrooted? or to unroot i have to flash a stock ROM?

Is it advisable to do another nandroid backup with root already applied?
and i guess nandroid backup is just like restoring your phone to an earlier point(the time at which you made the backup) am I right?

That is the exact same vulnerable recovery as I posted...

WinRAR works fine.
