Root Miscellaneous files

Would someone please explain clearly and thoroughly what the miscellaneous files on my SD card are and if I can delete them without causing harm to my device I really need the room 10 gb! I couldn't believe it nonetheless I can't make heads or tails what these files may or may not be cause there just numbers. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

It would be helpful if you would tell us at least what directory the files are in and what their extension is.

I see your running mobsters rom also when I go to the file explorer and swipe left the icon that says miscellaneous shows 9880 files with 26.1 GB of memory and that I'm using a total of 28.4 GB total for the entire SD card. I tried to send a screen shot to show firsthand but I don't know how I see a lot of files when I long press on them but don't know if they are important or not I have a feeling I could delete a bunch of these files but I don't want to delete something that would really screw up my phone or effect root Lord knows I went through a lot just to unlock bootloader.

Try the app called disk usage from the play store it will show everything on your sd card in a very good way
I wil definately check that out I see that of all the game roms I've downloaded it only takes up 7.3gb of mem. Final Fantasys 7-9 all disks but that's the biggest file I can think of i believe that I may have a bunch of backups but i cant find or recognize them also I really dont want to delete an important file since I'm new to rooting I really want to identify what is useless and what is not I only have about 30 apps downloaded but at once I had over 50 I'm sure that I have useless files and stuff taking up room.

well your nandroid backups might be large, depending on which options you backed up.

Sounds like you're using a muiu (I'm awful with getting named and acronyms correct but this is close) based file explorer. It uses the database that the media crawler generates. The problem is that there are only a few basic types of files it understand which are movies/video, music, apps, docs, archives and a few other basic types. Everything else gets lumped into miscellaneous. The name is misleading since its really "everything else that basic Android doesn't know about." Definitely not safe to delete them all.

Oh my the disk usage app from the market combined with the solid explorer IS DEFINATELY WORRH BEING A PAID APP yet ITS FREE a definate must have for root users I went from 233 mibof space to 4.35 and I'm still not rhru going through my SD card THANK YOU kagevazquez for that useful info.

Welcome I use it to clean out sd cards quickly whenever I fill one up

5.82GB free and clear and there are more to delete but as I learn what these folders do and what they are I'm more than satisfied for now extremely pleased would have paid for these two apps but they are free I strongly suggest for all of you especially if your rooted and exchange roms frequently to try these two apps from the market out "data usage" and "solid exolorer, they work in conjunction with each other and seems to be able to read every file on your SD no more miscellaneous!
:)

@kagevazquez. I know this thread is hella old but the info is not.disk usage works wonders with identifying and deleting clutter from my phone. Thanks for your insight
