Help Missed calls VS. Voice Mail notification???

Is it normal that my voice mail doesn't tell me what number I got a missed call from?

Within Metro's voicemail system there is a date and time option so date and time will be integrated as part of each voice message.

Independent of that when listening or after listening to a message press 5, and you'll be told date, time, callers number and duration.

I'm not aware of a way to integrate the callers number into the message like you can with date and time.

**Update** I just recieved the dozen or so voice mails I left myself last night via the text service. WTF! I've done everything I can possibly think of. PRL is the latest and I have reflashed the firmware on this phone. I don't think I can get this any more stock than it is at the moment.

I just left myself another voicemail and it has yet to come through. 15 minutes now. The phone is still sitting on the table where it recieved and spit out the others.

On a side note: I did get a weather alert just now for flash flooding in my area on the phone. Nice to know I can recieve those but just no voice mail notifications. :-(

Has anyone heard of a fix for this problem? I'm a new Metro PCS customer with an LG Motion (about a month old). I have been trying to get technical support (now three calls for a total of 2 hrs) with no solution. I can't understand why Metro PCS doesn't have an answer to this since its obviously not a unique problem given the various threads on the issue.

Hey Norm.
First welcome to the Motion. (A good little phone with a quirk here and there.)

Secondly, I have owned my Motion since September of 2012 and they (Metro and LG) have not been able to resolve this vmail icon issue as of yet. I've kept up on the firmware revisions and think each time I do one... "Oh maybe this will fix it." only to find that I didn't.

My work around has been this:

I go into my local Metro store, the one where I bought this Motion, remind them that it isn't quite working yet, and they CREDIT me for the month.

Yes, you heard right. The girls at this store and the manager have done all they can for me. I never was offered a NEW phone, only refurbished ones. Nope, sorry I paid full boat for this phone. I won't take a used phone. So they just credit me for the month.

I have had this phone for 8+ months now and paid $0.00 for service. I've heard from corporate and dealt with their techs. I've reached out to them via social media feeds and gotten phone calls from various Metro people and it still works sporadically. I've given up getting it resolved.

The upside? $400+ worth of free service. I plan on going down there tomorrow as the phone bill is due soon and getting another month's credit.

Some people are blasting Metro's service for dropping the ball on this one and you are correct, this is a REAL issue on some of these phones. But alas, no fix.

I wrote to LG a while ago and followed up about a month later with another letter. What I got from LG was basically a form letter letting me know to work with the provider of service. (Metro) Bah!

I'm actually surprised I got any response from LG at all.

I'll keep using my phone and if by some chance the voice mail icon starts working, well great! if not, I'll keep checking my phone when it says I have a missed called.

In the meantime I'll enjoy my free phone.

Thoughts - Comments anyone?

Well, since you asked.

I think Metro's usual 100% refund period is 6 or 7 days. (And I think Less Than 1 hr. of talk time) IF (and only if) you notified them of this ongoing problem in that period of time and can somewhat prove you did ,Then (and only then) I would agree that you are due a New phone as you Never had, and within the free exchange period Told Then So, a properly operating phone.

Now on the other hand, let's say it was 10 days before the problem arose or you noticed it. Then it's a different deal to me. Metro does have a very short full refund period granted, but it's published in print for all to see. If your issue arose or was reported to them outside that period, you should get the usual possible refurb Any One Else with a warranty issue would get.

It is common practice for all carriers warranty replacements to be refurbed phones.

(Not to mention the arguable silliness of the whole deal since it's again arguable a refurb phone goes through More checks than a new phone does.)

Hi Bruce,

Rereading my original posts state just that. I purchased the phone Friday August 31st 2012. Activated on the spot in the store with a brand new number and all. I set up my voicemail while I was at the store and even called from a reps phone to hear what it sounded like. (The girls were real nice.)

I left the store that day and proceeded to make and take phone calls that day. (More than an hours worth I'm sure.) It wasn't until later in the afternoon of the next day that someone called me and had informed me they had called me and left a voice mail earlier. I checked and there it was. I thought it was odd that I had no indication that I should have had some type of indicator letting me know I had a message.

Hence began the testing that day with a friend. Sure enough, no voice mail indicator.

The following Tuesday September 4th (I've had the phone 4.5 days at this point) I stopped into the same store and the girls were surprised to see me so soon. I explained the issue and they did everything they could to get it to work but alas...

They had sold out of the Motions at that and their other location and informed me I wasn't entitled to a refund as I had gone over the 1 hour talk limit. Mind you I wasn't aware that the problem existed at that point as I had not received a voice mail. When they called corporate they got the response that all I could get was a refurbished unit which there was NONE as this phone had just come to market.

Since then it has worked sporadically and it is just the voice mail icon that I have an issue with.

I haven't paid for service yet as each month I go down to the local store, let them know it still isn't working, and receive the credit. I've saved $400 in free services.

I've given up on the issue (Which is a known issue on a select few of these Motions.) and so has Metro. I've tried voice to text which also didn't show the icon or send me the text right away if ever. So the point is moot.

I noticed you now have the Spirit. Is this a nicer phone than the Motion? When I do a side by side comparison it looks like the specs are the same except the Spirit is bigger and slimmer and has a better battery. Thoughts?? Comparisons??

I wonder if I bought one with the money I've saved over the past 8 months I'd get my voice mail icon? LOL

Or maybe I'll just keep getting my free service.

You pretty much nailed it there IMO.

I came to the Motion from a 4.5" DroidX, I REALLY missed the missing inch-o-glass. I get it back in the Spirit, maybe the Perfect sized phone to me. The Spirit is much thinner, not so much the plus sized girl the Motion is (thickness wise). I don't have any issues with the power button not working well with some cases I did with the Motion. I have no real complaints with the Spirit other than I wish it had LEDs but I can live with that using NoLED.

Especially if you snap one of the refurbs for around 2 even, I think it's by far the best phone for the money in the line-up.

Yea, I'm going down to umm... Get my month waved again on the Motion voice mail issue today. If they put a Spirit in my hand I may like it too much. I'm a photographer and use my phone to show people in an impromptu setting some of my work. I normally use my 10" Nexus for that but sometimes all I have is my phone.

The bigger screen would help me. I'm wondering if I need a case for it. I've heard they are pretty rugged.

Thanks again!

Sip Dude - did you have any resolution or update on the voicemail indicator?

I have the same issue. Spent countless hours on phone support and in store. They claimed to have fixed it but it wasn't fixed. But, now here's the rub. I live in the Hartford, CT area but this week I spent several days in MA. While I was in MA I got voicemail indicators all week. Today, I'm back in Hartford and no voicemail indicators. So, the phone seems to work - I would theorize that there is some incompatible equipment in some of the towers and I'm lucky to live near such a tower. Anyone have any thoughts on this as being the possibility? Of course, this doesn't help me since I won't hold my breath for Metro to upgrade the tower equipment.
