Help Missing Contacts from Backup Assistant & Google Contacts

When I got my Bionic, my Backup Assistant was already installed. But whenever I added a new contact to my phone, it would automatically be marked as a Google contact and would be lost in my phone (so if I looked through my contacts, it wouldn't show up). If a new contact texted me, their name would show up, but it was still not searchable through the contacts list and doesn't show up in my BA list.

A Verizon employee told me that if I uninstall/deactivate BA on my phone, the contacts on my phone would automatically switch to my Google account. Two problems: 1) I can't figure out how to uninstall it since it only lets me "Force stop" and then nothing happens. 2) Some of the contacts are just floating around on my phone (the newer ones aren't searchable in BA OR Google), so I'm not sure they'd transfer over to Google correctly if I just deleted BA.

A different Verizon employee said the only way to deactivate BA is to do an entire factory reset, which I don't want to do just in case some of the newer contacts are lost.

I saw that someone answered a similar question with this on the forum:

1) Be sure to have all your contacts backed up to your Gmail account. Check online before proceeding to step 2.

2) Log into your My Verizon account. Go to the contacts tab, sort by list view and select all contacts. Delete the entire list. There's a deleted contacts tab as well. Select that and delete anything that's in there.

3) Go into your Incredible settings tab, select applications, manage applications. Do not sort or filter, allow list to populate. Select Sync Service, (icon resembles backup assistant icon) select clear data.

4) Also in manage applications scroll down to backup assistant, select clear data. This should do it.

5) To verify backup assistant is now disabled, select settings, accounts and sync, then under manage accounts, select backup assistant. You should be looking at a license agreement screen.

How to Sync Contacts with Gmail:

On your phone go to: Menu, Settings, Accounts and Sync, Put a checkmark in Background and Auto-sync.

THEN, Select your google account at the bottom (under Manage Accounts), put a checkmark in Sync Contacts and the other boxes (as desired). You probably should select to sync them all (contacts, gmail and calendar).

If you account does not appear, you will need to click Add Account and use the same account information as you use online at gmail.

Three issues with that answer: 1) Not sure if the newer contacts are backed up on Google because only some of them show up. 2) I have a Bionic, not an Incredible---not sure if that'll affect anything. 3) The "clear data" option is in gray for BA; I can only force stop 4) There's no "manage accounts" option.

Thanks in advance for trying to help!

You are probably syncing ok, but your contact display settings may need to be changed. Go to Contacts > Menu softkey > Display Options. Make sure 'Only contacts with phones' is NOT checked. Under 'Choose contacts to display' look at the settings for Google. Make sure at least 'System Group: My Contacts' and 'All Other Contacts' are checked. For Backup Assistant, make sure 'All Contacts' is checked. Also, check the 'All Contacts' for 'Phone-only, unsynced'. Do a manual sync and then check your Contacts again. Are they there?

Thanks so much for your quick response!!

I couldn't find the "All Contacts" for "Phone only, unsynced" but I checked the other boxes. How do I do the manual sync? Also, there are a lot of contacts now showing that are just people I've emailed but don't have numbers for (and therefore don't need to be displayed). Will that also be solved once I do the manual sync?

Thanks again!

In the 'Display Options' screen in Contacts (on the phone) if you put a check in the 'Only contacts with phones' you will only see contacts who have a phone number listed. I leave it checked because I e-mail some of the people without a phone entry. Below on the 'Choose contacts to display', touch 'Phone-only, unsynced' and it will open up and allow you to choose 'All Contacts'. Touching 'Google' gives you six display options. Choose which you want but I chose 'System Group: My Contacts' and 'All Other Contacts.'

You can always manually sync by opening gmail > options > Refresh. You can also go to Settings > Accounts > touch the gmail account and sync whatever you want.
