missing memory

This may be a silly question but cannot find an answer through searching.

I have the Hero. According to the specs this is supposed to have 512mb ROM and 288mb RAM.

I am Memory Widget and it is reporting only 165mb RAM total.

Where is the other 120mb?

This widget shows unused / total.

It shows internal and external memory.

At the moment it shows 65 / 165 Mb Internal and 2259 / 7592 Mb SD Card.

Well then it is showing you un used ram

As a guide I have just installed raging thunder lite from the market and memory widget is now reporting 47 unused and still 165 total.

Surely the total should be 288?

That number is your ROM, not your RAM. That's why it's refering to internal and external memory, and why it went down when you installed an app.

160ish MB free is pretty typical for most firmwares, although I don't know how that's supposed to add up to the 500MB, since firmwares are usually only around about 100MB themselves.

So which application or widget should I use to show ram, rom and sdcard separately?

If that figure is the remaining rom, what does the phone use the ram for?

I've never personally used an app to do that, but this one looks like it does what you want.
