Root MIUI EVO Community

SHO_ONE

Android Enthusiast
I absolutely take no credit for this rom what’s so ever! I am, like most of us phandroidian's, a rom`aholic and have an overwhelming need to share what I have found to enjoy.

I started a thread for Cyanogenmod7 and hoped it would take off as at the time there was virtually no where for a rooted user to go and simply discuss CM7 and all of its goodness... that is, no where to go for an EVO user that is... With that same sprit in mind, I've ventured off to the MIUI Rom and am enjoying it; however I've run into am issue and it would seem in my digital travels so have some of you... I hope this thread will grow as my other thread and we can get the awesome phandroid community together to solve the issues that arise in the MIUI Rom.

The current MIUI Rom is 1.5.13 found at
http://forums.miui.us/showthread.php?5-MIUI-Evo-Release-Thread-1.5.13-Chinese-amp-English should go into a bit more detail as to what this version entails and so on.

There is no 4G as this a variation of an ASOP version of Android with an iphone`esk feel. Don’t be fooled, this is not an iphone skin nor is it by any means the iphone OS. This is a merger of the two and quite frankly what the iphone hoped to be, but could never amount too.... With that said, I am not a fan boy of any one system, but a lover of technology and don't proclaim anyone one piece of tech better than another.... simply because!

Moving on...

I have found that with previous versions, Google voice worked without issues; however Google Voice seems to be experience FC's with 1.5.6, latest talks are 1.5.10 has a fix, but I haven't seen anything yet. I attempted a fix for Visual Voicemail through sprints VVM and I'll have to link this to my CM7 thread..... This is a supposed fix for Sprint VVM that’s supposed to work for MIUI and CM7...

1) Select your phone icon and press menu > select DND Mode
2) Then disable "Show Notification" and "Anti-stringer mode" at the bottom
3) Then select "Reject from blacklist" and then click the arrow on the right
4) Then select "Don't intercept calls" and "Silence notifications"
5) Then go back to the top and select "Blacklist members"
6) Add 9016 and you should be set
Or

1. Download VVM and update from XDA here (CM6 ADVICE,TRICKS,APPS(added market and kernels) - xda-developers)

2. Moved to SD

3. Navigated to the apk via Root Explorer, clicked, installed

4. Sent blank vm to activate@vvm.sprint.com

5. Dialed *38 (rings three times and hangs up). I was using Google Voice while running CM7, so this turned Sprint back on.

6. Be sure under settings->call settings->voicemail service is set to "My Carrier"

Hope some of that helps. I'm new to all this :-)

Or

Go here for the Titanium Back up Method... which again should work for CM7 and or MIUI... http://romrepo.info/wiki/index.php?title=Install_Sprint_Visual_Voicemail

Again, I take no credit for the Rom or fixes. What I have done is the research and posted what I could for those of you in need! I too will be attempting the fixes and will post my findings once I have something to post.. Till then... please do so as well!

*****EDIT / UPDATE****

What I did was a combo of things here... I did the TB fix listed here and other sites (google is our freind) then remembered that I too used Google Voice and never deactivated it by dialing *38 <- do this!!!! My Sprint VVM works flawlessly - - - - Solved!

I was just wondering today about why there wasn't a MIUI community here...glad to see I'm not the only one!

In response to what you posted earlier, I think the most recent GApps pack has VVM packaged in it. I flashed it a couple of days ago and it's been kicking butt ever since. Here's a link:

Latest GAPPS with the VVM fix, for any ASOP rom 2.3.3.or 2.3.4 - xda-developers

Really been digging MIUI. It's my first foray into AOSP roms, and I don't see myself going anywhere else for a while. It has all the options and features that make Android so great, but with the very clean, professional iOS-style interface (in my opinion the only good thing about iOS). If you haven't given it a try, it's highly recommended!

If you're not a fan of the ios interface, simply using ADW or LP will take care of most of that.

And that notification bar ... awesome!

I didn't realize I could use ADW with MIUI... the last time I tried that I believe I was on 1.3.* or somthing like that and they didn't play very nicely together. I haven't checked out the new Gapps... does this version have the new revamped market look? Or is that out yet... To early... at work... need to get a few emails out. I'll be back to research in a few! Thanks for the tips guys.

So can you list exactly what isn't working with MIUI or the problems associated with it? I'm not a fan of flashing ROM's that need tons of fixing.

Any idea when wimax will be working? I live in a 4g area and use my Evo for my internet connection, so 4g is a must.

Whats wrong.. I've noticed my Camera will lead to FC's when I use it and with no Sprint VVM Google Voice FC's too. However, I have listed fixes as other members here have listed fixes to the Sprint VVM and there is a camera fix floating around somewhere. That's this version. As the EVO isn't a officalliy supported phone we'll see weekly updates, but they'll be a day or three later then everyone else. MIUI 1.5.13 fixes the issues I have mentioned here plus a whole plethera of other issues that come with a Beta version of anything... I'm enjoying MIUI as the Themeing is great and the entire UI is revamped. As stated above, using ADW launcher or whatever other launcher is fine too.

Change log... http://miui-dev.com/forums/showthread.php?6236-MIUI-1.5.13-Changelog-preview

Frenchy, whats up bud.... 4G.... Will never be a go from what I've read. They've mentioned working on this / towards this goal, but that's been the story for a min...

What's up SHO? How have you been? I'm sure the Dev's will have wimax working at some point, it wouldn't make much sense for them not to get it up and running....I'd definitely give this ROM a try if wimax was working and just imagine how many other people feel the exact same way. If/when the Dev's get wimax to work on MIUI, they'd get a whole other demographic to try their ROM, so I believe it's in their best interest.

I know it's Sunday and with that the weekend's typically mean slow posting... Consider this both a bump....!!! BUMP***

I guess not. How do I install it? Whenever I get a voicemail it comes up in a text and tells me to call a number.
Well, you could always call your own number, that's what I do.

Also, I thought I heard about using sprint VVM with AOSP roms, so that would be an option. And of course, there is Google Voice.

Here, go grab this and flash it in recovery. This will give you all the pre-installed Google apps like Maps, Gmail, etc. Sprint's VVM is also packaged in it. Just delete the stuff you don't want, and you're good to go!

Btw, in case anyone is wondering...this method will also restore the voice search feature and add the voice-to-text icon back to the keyboard, a feature I had been missing since flashing initially.

Cool cool. I was wondering why voice search wasn't working. You feel like an idiot giving your phone commands that it doesn't respond to (lol).

Haha, great mental picture :D

Yeah, I really missed it when I was driving down to Atlanta and trying to input an address into my Navigation app...would've been sooooo much easier if I could have just spoke it. Glad I got it back.

Back to the topic, has anyone noticed any other bugs on 1.5.13 other than the ones already mentioned by the devs? The lack of auto-correct is kinda pissing me off but I can deal w/ it for a week. Other than that it's been smokin'...1.5.13 + Tiamat 4.0.2sbc ftw!!

Which version is the most recent camera app in MIUI? I'm running version 10 on King's GB RLS4. I love the MIUI camera, but this version doesn't have a FFC option. I wanted to have both the default AOSP camera (since it does support FFC), and the MIUI camera, but my phone wants to puke when i select 1 after the other. Can someone extract the current MIUI camera apk and host it for download?
