Xruptor

Hey folks I found a working version of MIUICamera that works flawlessly with CTMOD and CM7 mod.

The previous versions had issues where if you clicked on Color Effects it would force close the application. This version however works perfectly and the color effects options works as well.

MiuiCamera.zip

For those of you that want to install it using CW5. I have use ApkInstaller and put it together already for you.

Download this one if you want to install using CW5.

This does not work in /system/app

It does for me

I just removed the '-1'

i used Es File Explorer, deleted the old MIUI cam app, copied the new one from the zip file then changed the permissions

My step for this process:

Unzipped the MiuiCamera.zip
went into the system/app/
deleted old MIUI cam
copied the unzipped file and placed it into the system/app/

READ later post for the permission settings i used

no, in Es File Explorer when rooted, you can change the file permissions, i changed the permissions of the MIUI camera apk to:

User/ read:X write:X execute:[blank]

Group/ read:X write:[blank] execute:[blank]

Other/ read:X write:[blank] execute:[blank]

This does not work in /system/app

It works fine you just need to set the permissions for it and the ownership. I use RootExplorer to do this. You can use whatever file manager app you use to do the same. Personally I find RootExplorer much better in this regard. Best money I've ever spent :)

I set the ownerships to root. You have to set the CHMOD as well.

Negative . I deleted the original before installing the new one . I only have one in system/apps and it says "MiuiCamera.apk" . Color effects are working fine .

This does not work in /system/app

I think he said it doesn't work there because it doesn't have to be in system/app. You can just install this after you unzip it like a market app. It doesn't seem to do anything special by being in system/app but take up space. Permissions don't have to be changed for it to work.

I installed it using Bloodawn's ApkInstaller.zip using CWM and it worked perfect . Didn't need to change permissions or anything . :D

Using the APKinstaller is a good idea. However, you should double, tripple, quadruple check that you don't have more then one camera app.

Folks you need to make sure you don't already have:

/system/app/camera.apk
/system/app/miuicamera.apk

you need to make sure to get rid of camera.apk. Miuicamera.apk should be overridden if you use the apkinstaller.

First if your using CTMOD then you need to delete the Camera.apk and or MIUICamera.apk from your /system/app folder. These directions apply to people using CM7 mod as well.

Then put the new MIUICamera.apk in to your /system/app folder.

You need to set the permissions as follows.

Owner: Read, Write, (Uncheck Execute)
Group: Read, (Uncheck Write), (Uncheck Execute)
Others: Read, (Uncheck Write), (Uncheck Execute)

Then you need to set the ownership of the file.

Change Owner: Root
Change Group: Root

PLEASE NOTE YOU HAVE TO REBOOT YOUR PHONE FOR THE APP TO BE ACTIVATED AND DISPLAYED ON YOUR APPLICATIONS LIST.

It will not be displayed until you do so.

-------------

Please note these actions can be done with any major file explorer app. I use RootExplorer but you can use ES File Explorer and there are a few others that do the same job.

It's recommend that you place this file in /system/app yourself as the camera app is a system file to begin with. Installing it normally using the market installer is highly not suggested and may not work.

I'm good . I made sure everything was gone before installing the new one . :D

I've got in a habit of using the ApkInstaller.zip . Installing manually doesn't always work . :D

cool glad it worked out for you. I went ahead and uploaded a ApkInstaller version. I edited the original post to reflect this.

Used the CWM version...works great..no FC. Thanx!

Nice to know it worked for someone. I bet a lot of people were getting frustrated with the force close on the color effects option in MIUI Camera much like myself ;) It was driving me nuts.

Thanks again for finding this Xruptor . I referred a member in another thread to your CWM version . This find has really helped a lot of people out with their camera app . ;)
