Help MKV Player

Are there any video players for the HTC Desire that support MKV playback? this would be VERY advantageous for me as most of my movies/music videos/videos are in MKV format

If not, what are the best players for AVI/MP4 files?

I downloaded RockPlayer but it doesn't play the video well. It's very lag. I need an alternative for .mkv videos.

Mobo? I like Mobo. Better than RockPlayer IMHO, but then it's horses for courses, innit?

Yep, I also like MoboPlayer.
If even that doesn't play your files, then you have to accept that the video is too complex for your phone. In that case, simply convert it with more simple settings.
