Help MMS - any way to see the photo without 'slideshow'?

I don't get many picture message via MMS as in general I use whats app instead. however, one came through the other day and the picture didn't show up in chomp sms. So I checked the native sms app and I had to play a slideshow to see the picture - almost like it was a video clip. It was definitely a photo that was sent though. I later found that i can view it in chomp sms but I have to play the slideshow which again does the wierd video clip thing. Anyone else get this? Surely there must be a way to have the pictire show up with the message like every other phone I've used in the past?! Is there a better 3rd party sms app for handling mms (go, handcent, pansi)??

I changed to Go SMS pro and now have no problems with pics as pics.

I would give go sms a try i really liked that one the best out of all the other 3rd party messaging apps

+1 although they (Go Sms) heavily spammed me yesterday grr

Hmmm, I used to use go but moved to chomp because of go's heavy spamming! Might check it out again for the MMS issue. Have noticed chomp doesn't handle vcards properly either. Thanks guys.
