Well first you must explain the symptoms because then others might have them and we would be able to determine if its a common problem or something in particular you did. Did you wipe cache/dalvik and data when you flashed the rom?
I reflashed the stock mms over the one that came with velocity and it work. You'll lose the black theme but with the use of 3rd party sms apps its not a huge deal.
Do you keep your wi-fi on? I've heard that causes issues. My girlfriend's Ally is running stock - never been rooted once - and she occasionally can't send pictures if her wi-fi is on.
