Help MMS not, never worked - Virgin Mobile

Well-Known Member
MMS not, never worked out of the box, send & receive, on Virgin Mobile.
Called support several times, they seem to be giving me the run around.
Any ideas?
It is a Sprint branded phone, possible that the APN config needs to be edited?

Thanks!

Well can i ask what kind of phone do u have and did u make sure that data roaming is checked inside the mms app . And if that don't work reset the mms app . Now if these things doesn't work . If this device isn't old and u haven't had for 15 days yet i would look forward to a full return or a device equal value

Finally got her MMS working!

I still can't send or receive MMS on Stock MMS App - even after countless hours of phone tech support.

I was able to get Go SMS to work using custom APN Settings and Phone in CDMA Only mode.

This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the Stock APN settings for 4G LTE.

Is there anyone out there with a Victory that can send MMS on 4G LTE? Can you list your APN Setting from the /etc/apns-conf.xml file?

Are you on SPrint or Virgin? You're saying its the Sprint phone on the Virgin network, which may be the issue.

Sorry, It's a Virgin Mobile Phone - well, it came out of a Virgin Mobile box from Radio Shack - but is does have a Sprint Splash Screen when booting, but no Sprint or VM logo on the phone it self.

The Sprint splash screen makes it sound like your phone may have improper software. I have a VM Victory as well, wIth no external branding, but I do get the Virgin Mobile splash screen. MMS works fine for me, but I can't say for certain if sent one while on 4G.

If you let me know where to find the APN settings, I will post mine for you. I've never needed to adjust mine, so not sure where to find them.

You may have to go return/exchange it, if possible.

Download ES File Explorer from Play Store
Click on "sdcard" at Top, select "/ Device"
Navigate to "etc"
Select "apns-conf.xml" and Open With ES Notes Editor.
Scroll down a bit, curious if you see "68.28.31.7" anywhere.
Or is you could post a screen pic of it.

Thanks for your help.

At work so can't check that right now, but what is your Model Number and Hardware Version, found in "About Device"?

Yes, the setting is 68.28.31.7

Judging from complaints on Facebook, MMS problems are pretty common on Virgin Mobile. If changing your settings or exchanging the phone doesn't work, maybe something is messed up in your account provisioning. Unfortunately it can be hard to convince someone at VM of that... although it seems account reprovisioning fixes most of the data-related problems.

Hope some of this helps!

I've got L300VPAMA8 here. Not sure if its regional or carrier-based. If its the latter, you need a new baseband. If the former, then I'm not sure how to help out other than flashing a stock Virgin ROM to the phone.

Okay, my best advice is to return it and get a new one, then. Hopefully they don't care about TWRP- nobody does, in my experience. If its actually sprint hardware, no amount of file editing will fix it.

Just don't mention your recovery when you return/exchange it. Sorry I don't have better advice. :(

They dont ever check your recovery, etc. They always flash over all that anyways to restore everything to factory securely.

I did exchange the phone, and all works perfect. It even has a Virgin Mobile splash screen LOL.
Guessing I got a re-flashed Sprint Phone, who knows.

Seems that way, but if flasing the VM firmware and kernel from this page here didn't work, may have had the wrong hardware, too. No teling.

Before I get too far, is there a way to back-up exactly what I have now? Like a nandroid backup without having to Root first.

Thanks.
