Help MMS Picture Messaging

GMoneyQ69

Lurker
Hey everyone, first post. When I receive pictures in MMS (using the stock messaging software) the pictures I get are really small. I was hoping someone could help me fix this without alternative software like Handcent.
Thanks,
G

If you tap on the photo, then tap again, it will display in its normal size.

If you want to test this, download the free app SCREEN GRABBER & send a pic to anyone. Then, perform the double-tap as described & you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for the quick replies and welcoming, but even when i double tap the picture it is still small. Also if I save the picture it still comes up small.
Here's something i read about this issue in a different thread:

"I'm pretty sure i fixed the issue, mess with the User agent under the settings in the stock messaging app..... which i did, and now i'm getting pictures at the right size again."

If someone know what this guy is talking about and could elaborate on it that would be great.

Let me ask you how exactly are you determining that the image is "small"?

hmmm... well its just smaller than a normal picture would be, and I sent the picture back to the sender to confirm it is "small" and they agreed it was smaller than the photo they sent. Technical, huh? :P

Perhaps you could use the app SCREEN GRABBER to take a pic of what you're receiving via MMS & post it here, so we can get a better perspective of what you're looking at.

This is all relative.

Smaller as compared to what size?

Did you try pinch to zoom?

Did you actually view the picture on a bigger screen to see if it is actually smaller or if it's just smaller due to it fitting to be able to view on the phone?

Did you long press on the pic and check out the details of the pic, to see what the attributes are? (This will give you the actual size of the picture).

What's "normal" size for a computer picture? 640X480? 980X800? 1280X720? Bigger?

I understand it is relative. The main problem is that the picture is being resized and resolution being lost. If I zoom it is extremely blurry. If I put the pictures on my computer they are still small. Its almost like a thumbnail size. I dont think it is being resized to fit the phone screen because it doesnt remotely take up the whole screen even if I assume aspect ratio is maintained. I am not able to see the details of the picture size.

Okay. Wish you had clarified these details to begin with, so I wouldn't have asked you "elementary" questions. We can't assume everyone that posts on here really "knows" what they're talking about, so I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something as simple as, pinch the picture to zoom or save to the cpu and it'll be the right size.

That said, I know that there's a size limit, when it comes to the picture size that is allowed to be received/sent through MMS, so it's possible that when a pic is being sent to you, it's shrinking the "true" size of the picture.

That's the only thing I can think of. Problem is, I've never seen/had this issue before and I receive MMS messages with photos all the time and the size of the picture is fine when I transfer it.

How have you been going about saving the pictures?

For what its worth I have noticed the mms photos that I have sent and received have been shrunk as well. For the most part this has not been a problem for me but if I want to retain the size of the photo I just send it as an email attachment instead. It may take a couple of more taps on the screen but the file gets sent and received in its original size or resolution.
