MMS Settings?

Is there a place I can set it so that a pure text MMS is sent as two (or more) text messages rather than a single large message?

I know that once a message goes above a certain number of characters it gets sent as a multi media message that incurs a charge if your plan is for free text messages only. The only way i have seen round this is to use a message app like handcent which allows large messages to be sent as text rather than multi media. Not sure if this is of any help to you but might give you something to look into till someone gives you a definitive reply. Worth loading handcent and looking at settings. Good luck

Thanks. Funny how old "dumb" phones had these options built into them..
I've installed GoSMSpro which so far I like i'll see if I can find an option for it in there.

I find that, if I inadvertently write an overlong text message, I can often reduce its size enough to get it back to being an SMS rather than an MMS by quick and obvious editing. Otherwise, I think the phone's cut and paste is good enough now for this to be a decent workaround... I simply select the second half of the message, cut it, send the abridged SMS and then send a second SMS with the cut text pasted into it. Not perfect, but ok.

handcent and gosmspro can both do that with the proper settings. and they display (unobtrusively) how many messages they break the text down into.
