Mms

Hey Guy/Girls,
I'm pretty new to the Android scene. I was in line on release day for the Droid X and since then I've been hooked :). I've learned a few tips and tricks from all of you over the last few months and I appreciate all the knowledge you have to share with noobs like myself.

Lately, I have had to try to utilize programs like Google Voice, in an attempt to lower my monthly bill. Google Voice works great for texting (SMS), but I'm in need of a MMS program. I have heard about Nimbuzz, but it seems like whoever im sending a message to, also needs to use the same program.
The thing is my family is not tech-savvy, and they still use "dumb-phones." I just need a program where i can enter their phone #, attach the pic/vid, and hit SEND. Apparently Nimbuzz won't send pics to just anyone.

I don't want to have to pay VZW any more $$ than i have to (I've decided to return to college, so that is a major reason for cost-cutting :D) I guess the program I'm looking for will need to utilize the Data plan in order to send the MMS.

I'm already rooted, using Z4...if that helps any.

Can anyone suggest a program that would do such a thing?

Thanks

-Colin

I used Google Voice back before they offered the unlimited data/text promo.Verizon Starts Testing Unlimited Everything Plans for $69.99 a Month - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

If 69.99 a month (plus whatever taxes/fees are added) is a good price for you, then I'd say give them a call and try to get this.

If this is not a route you want to go, then I'd suggest just using email or facebook.

I tried calling VZW and got turned down. Apparently i don't qualify for this promotion. Grrr !!! GREAT SUGGESTION THOUGH, Thanks

Also, email and Facebook would be good solutions also, but my family uses dumb phones, so sending and receiving Email/Fbook is a challenge.

Everybody on Verizon has a vzwpix email address that gets pushed to the phone. Just send the pix to (their number)@vzwpiz.com. It is then downsized and delivered to the dumb phones. Example,

5557779999@vzwpix.com

Not sure of an easier program but I will keep my eyes open for you.

Thanks GMB and others, i sincerely appreciate your help.

Quick question. At the other person's end (the recipient of this message)...How will they receive it? - As a text message? just wondering.

i tried some other programs, but it seems like they were all a facade for VZW texting program. Meaning...it would still charge to my account, it just had a different looking screen.

Pucuck are you from the Cbus or Cincy area? They are test grounds for VZW promotions that are not eligible in other areas. Regulary the unlimited minutes and text would be 89.99 and then you have your data plan on top that which is either $15 for 150 MB or 29.99 for unlimited. And to answer the OP's question GMB hit it right on the nose. That's the easiest way for you to send it and not be charged and the receipent gets it in the form of a picture message.
