i have a lot of books in MOBIfile on my computer. will they work on the nexus 7...and if they do, what folder should i put them in

Download the Kindle app. Then copy your Mobi files to the Kindle folder.

If you can't find the app after you install, reboot your Nexus. That's what I had to do for some reason.

Rebooting triggers a scan for media files, that's why it works.
