Mobile Defense App

So all this allows you to do is pinpoint the location of your phone (plus it includes an antivirus), but does not allow backup or remote wipe of data?

I just tried it with GPS OFF, and it works perfectly. Not sure if it turns on the GPS, or uses cellular location based on towers instead.

installed it this morning. have GPS turned on. Successfully connected to phone via web account. At no time today, and I checked often throughout the day, was I able to see anything located on the map - it's just a google map with nothing pointing anywhere.

Also, if you're stating there is antivirus, backup/wipe, and/or the ability to remotely turn any function of the phone on, I'm highly doubting it. I see no page even attempting to do these things. The only way I know it connected was a short audible notification indicating that I received a message. I can't imagine that being even the slightest bit helpful if my phone is lost (and more of a red flag to any thief with my phone).

I want to like this app, so please let me know if I'm not using the tools properly.

I agree ..... don't see that much benefit to it especially compared to other apps like Lookout or iTag (I think thats what its called)

That doesn't sound right.

After the site connected to my phone, it showed that my phone was in my house. Actually, it may have been a few feet off (I think it showed my phone being in my backyard), but close enough.

I had options to lock the phone or send a message/alarm tone to the phone. There are special instructions on the site about setting up the lock feature beforehand (basically...set up lock sequence before hand on phone, then UNLOCK it via website...from then on, unlock and lock phone ONLY via website...this gives you the power to remote lock it at a later time).

Later versions should support remote wiping.

Personally, I pay very close attention to where my phone is at all times (like my wallet, car keys, etc.). I'd rather rely on that than an app (a) I can't get rid of (b) could theoretically allow the world to know exactly where I am at any given time. Can you say security risk? I've learned that, no matter how fool-proof something claims to be, there's always some fool out there yada yada yada.

For emergencies though, I'd love to see a free "911" app. Here's what it would do (there would be a very prominent 911 widget for it).
1. I would call as many numbers needed to the local police departments and cell carriers with, essentially, an SOS, so not only do they know where you are (with an address no less) but they'd have a street view picture. Wouldn't take a Sherlock Holmes to solve this one.

After making those calls, it would blank the screen entirely so that it couldn't be turned on or off. Only you (great song by the way) would know the secret "wipe finger" code to open it back up (Droid does that...jeeez I sound like a commercial).

the only drawback to this app is that unless you have root, it can simply be uninstalled and you are SOL. I would like to see a password protect to uninstall.

Very true. Hopefully that will get fixed soon. I will check this app out as well. I can track the fiance, err wait, she'll track me to the Strip Club for my Bachelor party LOL.:p
