Help mobile internet always fails

Bought a DHD in Singapore, and brought it to Australia to use.

Ever since touchdown in Australia, and after inputting the correct APNS from Ausdroid, I have never been able to even touch 3Aus mobile internet, every time it says connection failed, and no G, H, or any other symbol has ever appeared beside the signal icon, besides wifi. And I switch off wifi everytime I try connect.

Pretty much at wits end here, and been to 3 shops about twice and called them about 5 times, asking the same thing.

Does anyone have the same problem and has solved it?

Is always on mobile data on?

Are you roaming? If so is roaming data on?

What kind of network is preferred? To save battery I had mine set to gsm only but that prevented fast data. Can you set it to auto?

Its not always on, I've been calling the network people about it. They enabled my 3G and asked me to restart after 30 mins. 30 mins later and still no connection. So I found another APN and realised that it wasn't my handphones fault.

I'm sure I am not on roaming, and I am on auto.
