Help Mobile network not working evo

bmwguy

Newbie
I have a rooted evo (unrevoked non permanent) running 3.29 build. I have not updated with the latest build due to fear of losing root. Starting yesterday I am having trouble getting a mobile network connection. When this happens if I go to wireless and network settings next to mobile network it says "turning on" and it kind oid just hangs there. I can sometimes get a connection but usually it cuts back out within 30 seconds. I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue or if it might be related to not accepting the latest update. I have tried multiple battery pulls and reboots and this has not helped.I also tried removing the last few apps I had installed to see if they were possibly interfering somehow and that didn't help either. Does anyone have any ideas? I guess my last step would be to do a factory reset and them if that doesn't work I will have to unroot the phone and take our in for service. I really don't want to do that. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

UPDATE: I tried resetting the phone to factory defaults. this still did not fix the problem. Finally as a last measure before taking the phone in to Sprint I decided to go ahead and apply the latest 3.70 update and just do without root for a while. I downloded the update and tried to install it 2 times but both times the install failed and I just got the picture of an android and a triangle. The phone still boots up and works fine BUT after doing this the 3g network has been stable. Very wierd and I cant explain it for it has been fine for the last 4 hours and previously it was turning on and off every 30 seconds. I will post another update later. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
