Root [MOD] A2SD & S2E On CM7

Well-Known Member
With This Setup, Ive Been Installing Apps & Internal Memory Hasn't Moved Or Budged A Bit Since Testing. Been Tested All Day Downloading Since I Originally Posted About Testing Both Apps Out In The CM7 Thread.

Figured You Guys Should Try It Out.

I Would Start Fresh, To Get The Most Internal Memory.
Make A Back Up

& Ill Make How To Do This Brief For Now, Since Most Here Already Know How To Flash & Install The Needed Files..

What Both SE2 App & Dark Tremors A2SD Script Combined Does?
Being Brief Again, It Basically Saves You Internal Memory Space On Your Mobile Device.
I Been Installing 2MB To 5MB Apps All Day To Test.
Internal Memory On The Device Has Not Budged Or Decreased Since I Tried This Setup.
Everything Seems To Be Running Off SD EXT. Also Saves Battery Since Theres Nothing Using Internal Memory.

Here's How To Setup DTA2SD & S2E On CM 7.1 Hroark

Install The Latest CWM5 & CYANOGENMOD 7.1 - by Hroark & Dev Team.
(If You Have CWM5 Installed Already, Skip That Install & Install CYANOGEN 7.1 Again)

INSTALL THE GAPPS, HOTFIX4 Also Thru CWM.

Install DTA2SD Beta4 Thru CWM. (mount system & data)
UPDATED:
Using Ext4 For 2nd SD Partition. (Im Running Ext4. Mini-tool Shows EXT3)

(I Usually Used Ext2 For 2nd Partition, But No Journalizing On Ext2)
Try Other EXT @ Your Own Risk. May Or May not Work. I Dunno, & Didn't Test.

Ok Moving On, Once Installed & Rebooted Again

Go Into Phones Settings/CYANOGEN MOD Settings/ Applications.

Checked Allow Moving Apps & Selected Install Location, External.

Exit.
I Installed A2SDGUI from market, Ran, Selected Apps On SD, Zip Align, & With The Dalvik Move & Rebuild Last, Rebooted Phone Once Selected.

Once Rebooted.

Installed S2E from market.
Ran S2E & Then In S2E, Hit Menu & Settings. Selected Import.
To Import DarkTremors A2SD Script Into S2E.
(It Will Say In a Pop-Up: Flash CM7 Again When Selecting This Option)
Just Reboot Phone, Dont Not Re-Flash CM7 Again

Reboot Device Again,
So It Will Pick It Up The Import.
Once Back Up & Running & Your In The Home Of The Phone.
Run S2E App Again, Then In S2E, All Options Are Now Checked.

Thats Good & Your Done.

Dark Tremors A2SD Is Now Combined With S2E For CM7.1

That's Basically It.

I Was Surprised When I Downloaded Like 10 Apps Off The Market.
All Large Files. 2mb to 5mb & Then Installed About 5 Or More Apps I Had Saved On My SD. Ran Titanium Backup After I Installed My Apps To Check If The Space Decreased.

It Doesn't Budge Internal Memory @ All.
Same Space As When Dalvik Moved & Was Rebuilt.

No Need 2 Move To SD Or Anything Else. Updates Also Don't Take Space.

Not Sure About Rom Space, But Didn't Notice It Took Any Space.

I Tested With DTA2SD Alone Prior & Is What I Was Currently Running Before Getting The DTA2SD & S2E Working 2Gether.

& Its No Comparison.

Internal Space Fluctuated Down With Each App Install Downloaded On DTA2SD.

With Both DTA2SD & S2E Combined. Internal Never Budged.

UPDATE AFTER TESTING Some More Hours:
Noticed BloodDawn Released His CM7 Theme After Doing These Test's.

Installed BloodDawns
[CM7 THEME] Ultra Blue After & It improved The Cyanogen 7.1 Loads On Apps & Pages.
Runs Even Faster Now. Thanks BD.

(Internal Still Didn't Budge After Flashing The Theme & Installed A Total Of 30+ Apps.)

SCREENSHOT OF TB Space. With 30 Apps Downloaded
Using DTA2SD & S2E
No Internal Memory Is Being USED

file.php

Ok
HERE'S The 30+ Apps Downloaded
Registering On TB.

file.php

PHONE WAS BEING USED ALL DAY SINCE
ABOUT 3PM EST TO TEST.

Battery Still Going Good Until Now 7am EST.
USUALLY WOULD'VE CROAKED ALREADY Mid-Day.

TESTED USING A 8GB Class 10 SD
Downloading 128MB Of Apps To The Phone.
1st Partition FAT32 & 2nd Partition EXT4.

for Those Who Haven't Setup SD,
U Can Use MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.0 for sd partitioning.

Keep In Mind I Only Tried This Method Using Exactly The Way I Posted Above.
Everyone Has Different Setups & SD Partitions Set For There Own Likings With The Previous DTA2SD Mod.
Feel Free To Try & Check If It Works With Your Working Settings U Had Prior
.

NOTE: S2E WILL ONLY WORK ON CM7.

It May Not Work Out For You The Same Way It Did For Me.
I Hope It Does Though. It Really Helps Out..

Feel Free To Try It Out & Post Any Problems Or If It Works For You The Same Way.

Also Thanks For Everyone's Who Has Worked Hard & Contributed In Making The Prevail a Better Mobile Device.

Thanks For your Time & Ill Be On Later On This Afternoon To Check On How Its Going & Try To Help Out Some More.

Thats software is good but does not support ext4, well at least version 6 did not, not sure if they added it to version 7

7 Does support ext4. Spent the last few hours trying to get this to work but for some unknown reason it won't. Done exactly as said and didnt work... :/

Version 7 does support ext4, lol The only reason I know is because ESASE doesn't support it, and I was stomped until I found that software.

Is it possible to create the ext2 and then partition it to an ext3 in A2sd? I know its an option, but does it work?

I know that in CMW, not sure if it will do it with version 5, but whenever I would create a partition, then format it, it became an ext3.. thats what mini home wizard and ESASE said.

Ohh and You da Man Hroark! :D

Good stuff, Chin Checka! Bravo...

Thanks alot Chin checka...I odin back to rooted factory and did all the followings steps and it works perfect and also ext4 work perfect as well...just manually mount if you are using ext4 and all will be well....thanks again big dog....

please read this entire thread starting at post 13 for more info

thanks for this info hroark. i actually used ubuntu 11 disk utility to make my ext3 partition. but since u informed me that ext4 isnt working on the minitool, i checked it out & it does support it on the new versions of the mini tool.. Minitool Read it as EXT3 Or Other.

Also Does The CWM Reformat The SD To Another Partition Automatically?

Cool Glad It Worked Out For U. I Just Downloaded About 10 More Apps & No Internal Being Used. Total Apps Downloaded So Far 44. So Its Def Working For Some. Just Have To Figure How To Get It Working For All The Users With Each EXT Format. Ill Try 2 Figure It Out...

Thanks For Trying & Testing.

so should i do ext4 or ext3
alewis2k Wrote that ext4 work perfect as well...just manually mount if you are using ext4 and all will be well..

Im Using Ext3 to my knowledge. but some have problems with it working on ext3.

So u have 2 basically check on your own with what format will work for u best & c if it works.

i used ext3 partition, but i was told by hroark, that ext3 isn't supported with the kernel modules unless it was added.

So i may be running on ext3 & its just reading as it as ext4.

Not sure

When i partitioned it. I used ext3 in Linux disk utility. I could never get ext4 partition to mount the DTA2SD on boot & it never registered a2sd on Titanium using ext4.

i was using the DTA2SD by Inigo on ext2 prior since ext4 wasn't working for me.

but since CM7, i changed it to ext3 or maybe ext2 since both have worked work me prior, to install the DTA2SD beta4 & S2E.

Try It Out Your Own Way & C What Works Best For U.

Im Up To 40+ Apps Downloaded & My Internal Is Still The Same As In The Screenshot.

ex4 dosent even let me move cache to sd
ext3 works but when i install s2e and go thru the steps it fails to load up phone.
help

ext4 says its not enough space to move cache to ext

thats the same thing it was saying on my device when i was trying with A2SDgui on ext4. did u try ext2?

Also dont select any thing in the S2E but import. i didnt click anything but import on that.
all checked boxed got checked after i rebooted the phone auto.

Heres's My Partition Info on minitool
Partition type id: 0x83
Filesystem: EXT3

but i think this info is wrong like hroark mentioned to me about the mini tool.
dont really know if its right or wrong.
Due to the 0x83. on linux if im not mistaken, 0x83 MBR, can run ext2/3/4..

& its reading ext3 on linux & windows.

Still really not sure though.

ill try ext2 got nothing to lose
good luck. & im sorry its not coming out 1st try, but keep trying it out. U will def get it.

im pretty sure u will get it & i think it def has 2 do with the SD partition..
ext3 is similar to ext4, so maybe its why it reads it.

Took me a few hrs with formatting the SD with them,
but it seemed to work on ext3, but formatting sd using linux ubuntu 11 disk utility.

Once u get it up & running though, u will def b happy with it. i never downloaded so many apps with just DTA2SD alone.

Lemme know how it goes. Ill be back on ina few.

just to update.

I loaded my linux system up to check what the 2nd partition is running on linux & it says ext4.

so im actually on ext4, but on the minitool it will say ext3.

says the same thing
0X83
filesystem
ext4 (1.0)

so hroark is def right & the minitool is def wrong there.

Will update The Main Post To Ext4.

have you tried formatting sd-ext with cwm? that's how i do it and my a2sd has worked fine from day one.
i installed the cyanogen over CTMod without wiping, fixed permissions (dunno why, just a habit i guess. i always figure it cna't hurt.) flashed the a2sd beta from xda, moved dalvik, installed the hotfixes as they rolled out and my phone is quick, smooth, and has more apps than i really need. battery holds up for a day or a day and a half with usage that would normally get me from 14-18 hours on a shabby.
for a beta release, this thing is pretty damned sound.
i've seen that there may be some GB code now so maybe it can get better but i haven't had anything force close or reboot or disappear on me since i installed it and i did it all while traveling. couldn't use odin.
the beta4 of darktremor a2sd will do what s2e does if you just type 'a2sd datasd' in a terminal with root privleleges.

didnt know that a2sd does this with the commands.

been outta the loop.

also does your internal still decrease using that option?

i just installed most of the market apps 2 test & it not moving @ all since yesterday. talking about 50+ apps & my internal is still the same as the screenshot & performance is still the same. not one difference in space or not one shred of laggyness.

about the GB source. i mirrored it on the CM7 post. just to check it out when i have time & for others here to check it out before samsung decides 2 remove it or mess it up.

haven really had the time to check into it. might be the way to fix the cyanogen probs though but same. no force closes now after i removed what had probs with mines.

yea i mirrored the source of the gb so i can have a look @ it later.
does the a2sd also move private app & data & download cache?
it seems to move everything to me & work better.
ive had the darktremors alone & it didnt seem like how it is now.
also does your internal memory go down @ all? ive never downloaded 50 apps without internal going down.

i partitioned ext3 with cwm but it takes forever loading up, so long i dont think its worth it. if someone cant give 100% exact instructions then im done. this kicked my butt
\thanks anyway chin checka
