Root [MOD] A2SD & S2E On CM7

To prepare card
Partition sd card in CWM (0mb swap)
Back where CWM starts go to "mounts and storage"
-mount ext
-format ext

OR

Download free program easeUS partition master (pretty easy to use)
EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

To install
Download Darktremor a2sd for prevail and put it on SD card
Boot into recovery
Go to "mounts and storage"
-mount system
-mount data
Back to CWM start menu and click "install zip from sdcard"
-find and select Darktremor a2sd for prevail
Boot to system
Check app drawer for A2SDGUI. If it's not there download from market
(settings are up to you I select apps to sd and move and rebuild dalvik on sd)

2 ways to check if A2SD is installed (that I know of)
-Titanium Backup will show the free space for it on startup screen as sd card(a2sd)
-Terminal Emulator from market. Type "su" enter($ changes to #) then type "a2sd check"

And from what I have personally experienced you will always use some internal memory. But a2sd is a giant improvement. I have 117 apps (not including system apps) and have 83.3 mb left of internal memory

Do i move delvik cache on sd-ext?

It sounds like s2e and the newer versions of dta2sd are only working for CM7. Is that correct? Figured I'd ask before I try anything...

I am using a fresh install of CyanogenMod 7.1.0 for Prevail Unofficial Beta v2d + Hotfix B.

I can't get this to work. I've tried partitioning and formatting every way under the sun. Inside CWM, taking the card out and putting it in my PC, mounting the card on my PC via usb mass storage mode through the phone, ext2, 3, 4, it doesn't make any difference.

Here's what I get from a2sd check:
Code:
[] Ext partition found, but not mounted.
Your rom may not be setup to run Apps2SD.
Check with your rom developer if the boot image
is programmed to run Apps2SD.

Your partition may be using an EXT4 partition,
but your rom may not support EXT4. Repartition
your SD card to use EXT2 or EXT3.

Edit:

Yeah, so...forget A2SD. I wiped everything out, repartitioned with CWM, installed CM7, patched, installed S2E from the marketplace, and now I'm rocking and rolling.

For clarification, A2SD and S2E do exactly the same thing. One doesn't compliment the other, and installing them both at the same time is asking for trouble. If you're running CM7, you want S2E, if you're not...what in the hell are you doing in this thread? :)

Everyone to get this mod to work here is the steps...

Partition Sd card with clockwork mod...I have my sd ext setup a lil over 1gb....

Odin back to Hoark rooted factory settings....

Flash CM7...and add all hotfixes

next get the a2sd zip and put on sd card BEFORE applying it go into mounts and make sure SYSTEM AND DATA READS UNMOUNT...and then flash the a2sd....

once booted download a2sd gui from the market..and make sure it reads apps are on sd and zipalign is on....move dalvik cache to sd and rebuild....
it should reboot....

next go to market and get S2e and go in to S2e settings click import...its gonna say reflash...just reboot...it may take a few min but once booted all options in s2e should be checked...just open the program and see....after that DOWNLOAD ALL THE APPS YOU WANT:):):):):)......Thanks again to Chin checka....

Thanks so much worked like a charm after following your instructions !! BIG UP MON. :D

With This Setup, Ive Been Installing Apps & Internal Memory Hasn't Moved Or Budged A Bit Since Testing. Been Tested All Day Downloading Since I Originally Posted About Testing Both Apps Out In The CM7 Thread.

Figured You Guys Should Try It Out.

I Would Start Fresh, To Get The Most Internal Memory.
Make A Back Up

& Ill Make How To Do This Brief For Now, Since Most Here Already Know How To Flash & Install The Needed Files..[

What Both SE2 App & Dark Tremors A2SD Script Combined Does?
Being Brief Again, It Basically Saves You Internal Memory Space On Your Mobile Device.
I Been Installing 2MB To 5MB Apps All Day To Test.
Internal Memory On The Device Has Not Budged Or Decreased Since I Tried This Setup.
Everything Seems To Be Running Off SD EXT. Also Saves Battery Since Theres Nothing Using Internal Memory.

Here's How To Setup DTA2SD & S2E On CM 7.1 Hroark

Thats Good & Your Done.

Dark Tremors A2SD Is Now Combined With S2E For CM7.1

That's Basically It.

I Was Surprised When I Downloaded Like 10 Apps Off The Market.
All Large Files. 2mb to 5mb & Then Installed About 5 Or More Apps I Had Saved On My SD. Ran Titanium Backup After I Installed My Apps To Check If The Space Decreased.

It Doesn't Budge Internal Memory @ All.
Same Space As When Dalvik Moved & Was Rebuilt.

No Need 2 Move To SD Or Anything Else. Updates Also Don't Take Space.

Not Sure About Rom Space, But Didn't Notice It Took Any Space.

I Tested With DTA2SD Alone Prior & Is What I Was Currently Running Before Getting The DTA2SD & S2E Working 2Gether.

& Its No Comparison.

Internal Space Fluctuated Down With Each App Install Downloaded On DTA2SD.

With Both DTA2SD & S2E Combined. Internal Never Budged.

UPDATE AFTER TESTING Some More Hours:
Noticed BloodDawn Released His CM7 Theme After Doing These Test's.

Installed BloodDawns
[CM7 THEME] Ultra Blue After & It improved The Cyanogen 7.1 Loads On Apps & Pages.
Runs Even Faster Now. Thanks BD.

(Internal Still Didn't Budge After Flashing The Theme & Installed A Total Of 30+ Apps.)

SCREENSHOT OF TB Space. With 30 Apps Downloaded
Using DTA2SD & S2E
No Internal Memory Is Being USED

Ok
HERE'S The 30+ Apps Downloaded
Registering On TB.

for Those Who Haven't Setup SD,
U Can Use MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.0 for sd partitioning.

Keep In Mind I Only Tried This Method Using Exactly The Way I Posted Above.
Everyone Has Different Setups & SD Partitions Set For There Own Likings With The Previous DTA2SD Mod.
Feel Free To Try & Check If It Works With Your Working Settings U Had Prior
.

NOTE: S2E WILL ONLY WORK ON CM7.

It May Not Work Out For You The Same Way It Did For Me.
I Hope It Does Though. It Really Helps Out..

Feel Free To Try It Out & Post Any Problems Or If It Works For You The Same Way.

Also Thanks For Everyone's Who Has Worked Hard & Contributed In Making The Prevail a Better Mobile Device.

Thanks For your Time & Ill Be On Later On This Afternoon To Check On How Its Going & Try To Help Out Some More.

This is a great piece of research!!! Thanks for the time that you put into it!
I already had dt apps2sd on my phone and added s2e like you said and my internal is as low as yours!
It seems to pick up where apps2sd leaves off!
Thanks again
Ric

didnt work for me

I just partitioned my sd card in CWM to 1 GB

I installed s2e, and set the option to mount as ext4

I put a check in applications and rebooted the phone

seems to work for me

Can some one tell me why you need a2sd and s2e running at the same time

sounds like they would conflict with each other

s2e seems good enough for me

Ok I will try from a freshly partitioned sd... and I dont use both just s2e... but s2e does not move data without the second script....

what options are you checking in s2e

it moved the contents of /data/apps for me

i probably would not select the dalvik option

If you have not installed any apps that have to run on system side (widgets seem to cause it to grey again) check advanced in options and you can move /data/data.
It appears that once an app is installed that must have data on user side (I get a prompt if it can conflict) you can't cheek the option any more. As some data is on sd-ext and some on internal

But only with cm7. S2e is cyanogen exclusive

just wanted to say "YES" ....A2SD AND S2E working fine and in unison with Cm7 3.5:D. only thing i did was re-format and re-partition SD Card ( using Partition Wizard [MiniTool] )to EXT 4 and FAT32 (both as PRIMARY). only option i added to "stock" s2e was to select "MOUNT AS EXT4-NO JOURNALIZING". Works like a charm!!! Thank You!!!:D

Partition your sd card with cwm. (advanced, partition sd card, choose the ext size of your choice-mine is at 1024m, swap size 0M. Then reboot.

Odin back using the EJ06 GB Rooted image.

When rebooted, copy the cm-7.1.0-HROARK-beta35.zip and the DTA2SD Beta4 files to your sd card.

Flash the cm-7.1.0-HROARK-beta35.zip with cwm and then reboot.

When rebooted go to menu, settings, CyanogenMod settings, then application. Enable application moving. Then for installation location, select external. Hit the home button.

Go to menu, settings, applications and enable unknown sources.

Then go to the cwm menu and select mounts and storage.

Go to where it says mount/system and hit the camera button. It should now say unmount/system.

Go to where it says mount/data and hit the camera button. It should now say unmount/data.

Hit the back button and choose install from zip card, choose from zip card, then choose the dtapps2d-2.7.5.3 file. When done, reboot.

Once booted, go to the market an download A2SDGUI.

Open A2SDGUI and make sure that the Apps are on SD and Zipalign on boot are on. Then on the top, choose Dalvik. Select Dalivic Cache on SD-Ext then hit Move and rebuild. Let it reboot.

Once booted, go to the market and download S2E.

Open S2E. hit menu, settings then select import. A pop up will appear and say to reflash CM7 again. DO NOT REFLASH IT!!! Just reboot your phone.

Once rebooted, reboot your phone again so it can pick up the import.

Once booted, open S2E and the all options in s2e should be checked except the Download cahe. If so, you are ready to download all the apps you want WITHOUT TOUCHING THE INTERNAL MEMORY.

Enjoy.

Exactly what this process does: installs dtapp2sd beta (which supports moving /data/data) and creates symbolic links for all the apps you have installed. Then you install the s2e app which ALSO BY IT'S SELF DOES ALL OF THIS, click import, IMPORTING the SYMBOLIC LINKS CREATED BY dta2sd to s2e. dtapps2sd is not necessary. If you format your sd ext and do fresh install, go to menu>settings>cyanogen settings> application and check allow moving of apps and select eternal for location install only s2e, check mount Ext 4 and advanced mode. You can then check all boxes INCLUDING /DATA/DATA reboot and use no internal memory.
