Root [MOD] Jelly Bean Voice Assistant / Google Now

You might have a previous version of google search installed. Look in your system/app folder for googlequicksearchbox.apk (or any apk that has the blue google logo next to it) and delete it. Make sure permissions for velvet.apk is set to rw-r--r-- and reboot.

I tried it I can't delete it and I don't know how to do the permission

Works good on midnight ROM 1.1.7 change-log says that it was deleted in this version
Just flashed into recovery and worked right away. Didnt have to change anything.

Heres Google Now Search for Ice Cream Sandwhich in a nice flashable zip

Link - Google Now ICS.zip

Updated 08/07

This is Jelly Beans Google Now for the Evo V 4G (Evo 3D) everything works

- Flashable zip deletes previous "GoogleQuickSearchbox.apk", "GoogleTTS.apk", and their odex files Some Custom Roms may have have these named differently so you might have to manually delete them before flashing this -Plz see Rom Dev

- Works great with Mobster Rom V :)

I downloaded the flashable zip, moved it on to my sd card. I also checked the current .apk file and it is named correctly googlequicksearchbox.apk. I flashed the new file (zip) through 4ext. Once it booted, it then said updating android. When I checked the file through root explorer it still had the same named file. When I click on it, it said this is a system app, do you still want to replace it. I click yes and wait for it for about a minute, then it says app not installed. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks for the help.

I just saw in a previous thread that it doesnt need to be flashed in midnight's 1.1.6 update. I have this rom with 1.1.9 update, I take it I dont need to flash it the??

ok... so you say its flashable... How do you flash on this phone..? im used to motorola triumph.. is it just as easy to flash zips? I used rom manager on my phone to get to the recovery mode, and just did a backup just because. when I booted my phone back up it said android is upgrading... Have i done something wrong? Help me out, do i just put the zip in the sd card and then install zip?

Hey just a lil public service announcement to all. When I first installed this, I would get this weird thing where, when I would lock my screen and then try to wake my phone, it wouldn't come back on. Then, seconds later, it would reboot. It did it like 5 times in a row before I was like ok...I'm gonna revert back to my nand backup. But then I decided to try and just delete the cache and dalvik...drum roll please...it worked! Hasn't rebooted on me yet. Just some friendly neighborhood fyi, after u install this, wipe your cache/dalvik. It'll save u hella trouble later :-D

I found out this answer, the dev said that Google Now is not installed with midnights latest version (1.1.9). On another note, with root explorer, I got into syst/settings and found the google quick search file, I tried to change the name and it said unable to change. I also tried to delete and it said unable to delete. What am I doing wrong?? I am rooted and s-off with midnights rom installed. Just to throw this out there but is there something in settings that would allow me to write on files??? Or maybe Im way off base with this. Any help would be much appreciated. I also just tried to flash the Google Now zip and it said could not install.

Ok, I just answered my own question. In my root explorer, I had to mount my drive as writable. That allowed me to change the file. Per the instructions I found on how to install this, I changed the googlequicksearch.apk file to .bak, but I searched in the syst/apps folder and cannot find the file now (named........bak), all I see are .apk files. Anyone have any idea where it is, I was gonna delete it after I installed the Google Now apk file. Also, is the GoogleQuickSearch file the only one I have to rename or delete?? And also, what is the latest version of Google Now that has voice working?? Thanks for the feedback

Did you rename the whole file to just ".bak" or "googlequicksearchbox.apk.bak"?

Mikey v6 is what worked best for me

yah mikey v6 is what i use as well. googlequicksearchbox.apk would be the only one you have to delete or rename to googlequicksearchbox.apk.bak or whatever you wanna rename it to. only have to bother with that if you have any issues installing the zip.
