Root [MOD] Nexus 4 build.prop (GTA III)

I've seen a few questions floating around about how to download GTA. Following is the method I used. **I'm not a dev so the following changes to the build.prop might be overkill but they will work**

1. Navigate (via root explorer) to system-->build.prop.
2.Mount R/W
3. Long press build.prop and select "Open in Text Editor".
4.Make the following changes:

ro.product.brand=google
ro.product.name=occam
ro.product.device=mako
ro.product.board=MAKO
ro.product.manufacturer=LGE
ro.product.model=Nexus 4
ro.build.fingerprint=google/occam/mako:4.2/JOP40C/527662:user/release-keys

5. When you "save and exit" a backup of the original build.prop will be made and named "build.prop.bak"
6. Navigate to system settings-->apps-->Google Play Store and wipe cache/data
7. Reboot.
8. When you open the Play Store app you should be prompted to agree to the terms, accept. Your device should now be recognized as a Nexus 4 and GTA will be downloadable.
9. Backup GTA via titanium backup
10.To return to your old build.prop: navigate back to its location via root explorer. You can delete the modified one or as I did just rename it to "build.prop.nexus" for future use. Now remove ".bak" from the backup made earlier (step 5) and you are good to go.

Oh my God... sir, you're amazing... Not only does GTA show up, but Modern Combat 4!!! If I download it, will it let me play? Or will it come up with an error message saying my device isn't supported?

It will let you play, I tried it last night. I'm on PA 2.99 but the rom shouldn't make a difference. Your device is supported because you now own a nexus 4 (at least that's what play thinks:p)

Did you change back to the original build.prop? I don't know why you got reboots, nothing was out of the ordinary for me..

Did you enter that part right?
 
Quick question will this work on mobz v4? Also do i need a pc and what programs are u using. If anyone is willing to help me out and walk me through on only the first stept the rest i can handle.then id appreciate it.

No you don't need a pc and yes it will work for any rom. You can use the app "root explorer" to access the "system" files. In there you will find a file called "build.prop". Mount system as "R/W" (at the top of root explorer you will see "R/O", click this to change to "R/W" ) and open build.prop in text editor. This is
where you will make the changes.

If that's still to confusing there is also an app called "build.prop editor" that is free and allows you to edit the same thing.

Can you use a gamepad with it? I was surprised to see that the Wii controller works for GTA and even more surprised at how well. With display settings at max its just like the old days on ps2

You don't need to keep these settings applied. You just need to change them to download what you want from the market. After your game is downloaded you revert back to the original file.

Haven't tried actually. As for graphics in MC4 they'll blow you away. It keeps detail at high definition and a framerate of 40+. Also take note I was running the game on our phone with both cores on @ 1.13 GHz on lag free. Pretty amazing if you ask me!
 
Using the build.prop app was such a breeze! Thanks. Im downloading vice city and gta 3 right now. Another question if we are using the nexus 4 why not use the evo 3D? Anyways once the dl is over, can i backup these games, I dont own titanium backup but i think its time to buy it but even the free version kind of confused me. I only want to backup the games so if mobz ever updates his rom i can just install the rom and reinstall the games without modifying the prop. I mean its not too much of a hassle but the games are big though. Vice city is over 1gig and i have 50kbps 3g unlike u guys that have 2mbps! BTW this will break the camera on mobz so just install and revert back i guess.Thanks everyone! This is how our phone should have been from the start.
 
Vice City don't work on EVO 3D or EVO V 4G I already did this and had a thread but it was taken down so ill say it here! VICE CITY crashes on our phones.

There is no fix for this after 2 mins it simply freezes.

Options? Buy galaxy S2 or get a provider phone cause our phones can't handle this game.

Yes but it's not straight forward, Sense 3.6 doesn't play nice with bluetooth controllers so you'll need a powered usb otg cable as well as something like the sixaccess controller app.

This is for GTA III bro as clearly stated in the title. vice city was removed from the market (might be back now).
 
This is good!! Thanks for sharing! tested in viper Rom, broke camera but I was able to see and download GTA.
Off topic but do you have any stronger 3g buid.prop edits that I could use!!

So it is, not spending another $5 though for GTA , III is good enough for me:thumbup: '..especially since nexus 4 users are complaining about quality

I don't know, his profile shows the Evo V. Also why would the GS2 be able to play it but our phone couldn't, the hardware is almost identical. If anything we'd have better support because our graphics supports the neon instruction set.
