[MOD] Use Button's Backlight as Notification

accinfo

Newbie
Hey!
If you guys really really want the MOD, let's do something about it. AND I NEED ALL SUPPORT FROM EVERYONE.

Read Carefully.

I'm not sure if you've heard of PSX emulator or not. The author, zodttd, has started the project because he saw
there was a petition ( Here ) to have me bring PSX, N64, and the VLC media player to the Android platform. With over 1800 signatures I started work on PSX a few days ago.

So what I am thinking is, we should do the same thing too!

I have begun a petition. Now all I need is you guys to sign it. It's a really simple process.

Once we have enough signatures, we can show it to mods from other communities.

Petition

Thanks,
Clay

Those backlights are VERY dull. You would have to make them strobe 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 just to be able to notice anything.

What about turning on/off a block of pixels on the screen to act as a notification light? I read about this somewhere.

ooh SuperAMOLED screens are supposed to use little to no power on black pixels so doing that could save having to turn on the entire screen every time you wanted a flash. Good thinking man.

I wouldn't mind having something like this with my own personal color, size, and speed. (4 colors and 2 speeds shown)

Something like that would be great. An external notification led is a pretty useful feature that can save battery life by not having to always turn on the screen to check if there is a new message. I am always away from my phone for short periods of time and I am constantly having to turn on the screen to check for new messages.

doesn't showing pixels like that require the entire screen to be turned on? Is it possible to only turn on part of the screen? I'm not up on the actual hardware, but it seems much like my computer monitor, I could not turn just a bit of it on even if I had full control of the drivers for it...

Not on AMOLED. Individual pixels can be controlled

People have suggested that but it would make those specific pixels die faster than the other pixels in your phone.
Maybe just have the notification "icon" float randomly around the screen (like a screensaver would do).

That would be neat but having to process it all may hurt the battery time. Our ideas to turn on certain pixels wouldn't work either because I assume you have to turn on the screen as a whole, then display the certain pixels you would want.

I see. If it would hurt battery life due to extra processing, just have a single random location determined at notification time and move it with each new notification. I think for this type of screen you only have to illuminate the pixels necessary to draw the icon. Black areas require no power, which is a reason why this screen tech is so efficient.
