Newbie Here...

I see mentioned many phones that are:
EVO HTC V 4G
EVO HTC 4G
EVO HTC 4G 3D

I want to root my newly acquired EVO HTC V 4G that has 3D from Virgin mobile

1) Are the phones above the same phone?
2) Will rooting directions for a EVO HTC 4G work on my phone?

Please advise.
 
The evo v 4g (the one we have) is NOT the evo 4g. If you did the root process for the evo 4g on the evo v 4g you would probably brick your phone. I have never heard of the evo 4g 3d. Maybe you mean the 3d? Just do the root process for the evo v 4g good luck

If you see HTC Evo 4G, run away. Nothing that has to due with it has any relevance to us. Our phone, the "Evo V 4G," is just an Evo 3D. If you root your phone and want to use different roms on it, Evo 3D roms will work just fine (albeit without MMS).

Just be sure you know what you're doing, and follow the All Things Root guide.

...htc evo 4g has nothing to do with this phone or thread so forget about that...
the evo 3d and the evo v 4g have a little story to them..

history: once upon a time, sprint decided that it wants to sell htc's new 3d phone... that is how the htc evo 3d came about... years later, sprint decided that the evo 3d's time was over and they decided to send it to the graveyard... they stopped selling it...

a little while later, virgin mobile, a company that uses sprints towers, wants to sell a new android device... sprint still has a bunch of evo 3d's left in stock so they say.. hey... why not give them to virgin mobile... virgin mobile happily took the phone and renamed it to the evo v 4g...

the evo v's insides are exactly the same as the evo 3d. In fact, some users recieved virgin mobile evo v's with sprint's logo on them... as for the software, there are some minor diff but in the end... evo 3d roms CAN be used on the evo v...
hope this wasn't too long of a story but now you know..

so to answer you question, yes the evo v 4g and the evo 3d are the same phone but they have some minor software differences...
 
I'm mind blown. I thought the HTC Evo 3D was the 4G, reason is that when I was looking for a case for my phone I always typed "htc evo v 4g case" and it came up with a different looking backplate so I assumed it was Sprint's version of it. But now it all makes sense! I got my phone on August and I have the Sprint logo as well.
