Modify Factory Ringtones and Notifications

Is there a way to modify the ringtones and notifications files to increase volume? Whether it be via computer or on the phone itself? I have the ones that I always like to use, however, a lot of the time I don't hear them if I am in a busy/noisy area.

Are you sure you have your ringtone volume right up? I mean, the stock notification sounds/tones are pretty loud with volume set at maximum.

Perhaps enabling vibrate may help?

If not, then you could browse to /system/media/audio using a root explorer, copy the files you want to change to your SD card, activate USB mode to access them and then 'boost' them using a program like Audacity.

Also note, that some ROMS allow for higher volume settings than the stock SII one.
