Help Moment 2.1 Update Thread

O ya, just btw, I haven't had a CDMA lock since I went to 2.1. That's coming from a disgruntled podcast downloader, previously afraid to download anything outside of WiFi. I was shocked when downloading the engadget podcast when I came back to my phone and saw "download completed" instead of "waiting for data".
I probably just jinxed it, but I'll enjoy it for the time being and I love you all. :D

ok for us total noob's out there who couldn't root or upload 2.1 if we wanted to, has there been an update as to when 2.1 would be rolled out officially?

I'm only about half sure I read this because now I can't seem to find it anywhere. But, I thought I read somewhere that using 2.1 would enable me to use speech-to-text...not text-to-speech. This is pretty much the only reason I went to 2.1. So far, nothing else has really impressed me! If this is right, what app do I need to download or whatever to get it. I'm somewhat android stupid, so please give as much detail as you can. Thanks so much! Btw....if this has been discussed, I'm very sorry. Couldn't find it.

Not sure if this is where this should go, but a new user to android from Iphone. I am trying to connect my phone to the pc in download mode using the sprint update utility and the custom 2.1 .TAR file. when the phone is powered on, the device manager recognizes the usb drivers and all is well.

When i power it down and remove the battery and all that jazz, when i plug it back in, it only registers a "M900" with no drivers available. Can someone point me in the right direction?

quick question on the install, i dont have a root folder on my sd card, and do i unzip the file before i put it on the card?

No, don't unzip-- just put the zip file in the main sdcard\ folder, then boot into recovery mode (hold volume down, call, end)

Uninstall the drivers via contraol panel and try installing them again. They may have not installed correctly. It happened to me the first time as well. Also make sure that the phone has USB Debuggin unchecked on the settings of the phone prior to going to download mode.

Done this a few times now, even reinstalled a clean version of windows 7 to rid of everything. When the phones on and in normal android mode, it's fine, detects drivers fine and the debugging is checked. But when it goes into download mode, it simply doesn't catch the right driver.

Should i attempt a factory reset? I'm really at a loss, and have probably tried for 5+ hours to just get USB connectivity on it :(

Go into your Program Files/Samsung Electronics/SWUpgrade/Drivers and install the file that is in there. Make sure your phone IS NOT plugged in when doing it. After those driver install follow the directions on the SW Upgrade tool and it should install then. Don't uninstall what you have now, I don't think that matters because it is a different driver for the download mode.

I found this out on mine after trying a few times on Win 7, turn off USB Debugging. Settings>Applications>Development

After that, the MicroSD inside played nice and acted like a normal removable card.

Debugging should NOT be checked.

Guys,
those of you who have upgraded to 2.1, aren't you concerned that when the official version comes out, the Sprint stores might not take your Moment in and update it? I am saying this because supposedly rooting and such has already voided the warranty on the phone. I guess one could always flash back to 1.5 and then take it to the store for the official update.

You can very easily flash back to stock cl 14. They won't know the difference.

Ya, not too worried. I think I voided my warranty when I bought my moment on Nov 2 from a shady guy in North hollywood.

So I stayed up last night and finally updated to 2.1(DD10). Everything is working fine although YouTube had a glitch. The SDX guys had a fix which took care of the issue. I don't plan to install my backup yet or get any app from the marketplace as I want to test the stability of this version.

One annoying problem I had with flashing was trying to get the Volume Down, Camera and End button pressed simultaneously. It took at least 5-6 tries to get the "downloading" screen. Is there a secret to getting it to work every time?

Update:
Something is really wrong in the hardware of this phone :(. Like I mentioned, I have no apps other than stock ones and now the phone doesn't have the EVDO icons on top and I can't even switch to WiFi although the phone sees my router. The "Airplane Mode" is off, so it's not the generic CDMA lockup that everyone complains about. Just rebooted to set things straight.

I'm pretty sure you just hold them all down at the same time prior to -- and not one after the other as i'm assuming you're doing. Could be wrong tho.

I was holding them down at the same time(maybe miliseconds difference as I'm human :) ) but it took quite a few tries to get that screen up. I knew it didn't work as soon as I saw the SAMSUNG screen and then took the battery out and kept retrying.

I saw a YouTube video and the guy had a new HTC like gallery for the photos. He says it came with dd03, but I see the old gallery in my update. I checked SDX and the threads talk about rooting to get it. Is that the only way to get it?

Trick= Hold down Vol Down+Camera at the same time (they won't do anything on their own). Then after-and-while holding those, add the End button to the mix. The key here is that the phone sees VolDown+Cam being pressed when you turn on the phone.;)

You have to hold down the combination until the loader bar dissappears ;)

I don't see a loader when booting into download mode:confused: But that is a good point. Keep the buttons held down until the download screen appears.
Premature evacuation can be a stressful ordeal when you are just getting her warmed up, because it may take a while to recover and get her back into the mood.. I mean, mode.

Edit: Ah, IOWA's referring to booting into recovery mode. Yeah, don't be fooled because it will look like it's going into a normal boot at first. So whichever you are doing (into download mode or recovery mode) make sure you hold down the buttons for a while (10secs maybe).
