Monitor Media Scanner progress

Hi,

Is there a way to monitor the media scanner progress?

Sometimes my media scanner runs for hours, sometimes a reboot stops it (and sometimes not). I was wondering if there was a widget or an app with a status bar notification to see how much of the scan had been completed.

Thanks, Paul

How much space do you have, what is your processor speed and how much data do you have in there?

My media scan won't go longer than 10 seconds.

Hi,

Yes details would be a good idea, sorry :-)

Here goes:
Motorola Atrix rooted running 2.3.4 stock
1.0GHz dual-core Tegra 2
Media is stored on a Class 2 32GB sdcard
All media is stored in one folder, totalling approx 28GB. All other folders contain a '.nomedia' file

I realise 28GB is a lot, but does the scanner only look for new files each time, or does it scan the whole card every time?

I've tried wiping the data under 'Media Storage', I've tried scanning the card for errors on my laptop, and I've wiped my phone several times and re-installed one app at a time, and I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks, Paul

What Kind of media files? Are most audio, video, or pictures? Media Scans the entire sdcard from my understanding. Do you need all these files on the card at once? Cloud storage is very dependable and easily accessible. Dropbox gives you 2 Gigs and Minus gives you 10 gigs. Both have apps for the phone. Adrive gives you 50gig of free space but isn't as easily accessible.

The vast majority are mp3 files and don't change, although there are a few video podcasts.

On a normal day, I will add 2 - 5 new video podcasts, and delete the ones I've watched. This is run through iSyncr which I use to sync to iTunes.

I've tried streaming options before, but as I tend to listen to music approx 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, that would be a lot of data.

google music works really well for me. as far as the data if you have the unlimited data plan then you have nothing to worry about. I have several thousand songs on it and it steams really well for me.

Unfortunately unlimited data plans don't exist in Australia, which is where I live.

I also like to keep the music stored on my phone as I sync back to iTunes which enables me to use Smart Playlists.

Well then I'm not sure where to go from here. I have unlimited data so don't suffer from the issue. I'm not even sure I have media scan (Custom ROM) you could try just shutting off the media scan.

Unfortunately I've already tried that option, but shutting off the media scanner is not really practical as I add a few new video podcasts every day and need them to be visible so I can play them.

Man, try emptying your phone and see how long the scan takes (should be almost instant).

If that works, then you'lll need to free some space.

I've just done a factory reset, I'll see if that helps although I'm not optimistic because I've done that a couple of times before.

I should probably point out that last time I reset the phone, I also emptied out the internal storage and the SD card, and the media scanner ran for over an hour.

That's really weird.

Now that you did a factory reset, I think it'd help a little to format your microSD on your computer.
