I have mentioned that I would like a working indicator similar to a hard drive light so you could see if my phone is working or if it's froze. I found this app that shows a text overlay in the status bar area and can display just about any info you would like. I use it to display the CPU % and RAM. The app is called Status Bar Mini Pro and is highly customizable (at least the pro version is). The text in yellow is what it is displaying.

I read that the app sucks battery, true?

Been playing games on my phone today so it's hard to say. I read that too, but someone could have had a bug in their butt when they tried the app and over exaggerated his results.
