Barnes & Noble Decides That Purchased Ebooks Are Only Yours Until Your Credit Card Expires | Techdirt

I store extra copies elsewhere when I can - if tablet is wifi only and I have it off, what can B&N do?

I don't like their store policies, didn't like the policy on the Nook, nor the Nook website. There were 2 minor agencies that you could NOT opt out of, as stated on the opt-out page. Told B&N until they controlled all affiliates, they would be regarded as spammers themselves.

Could this policy be since MS got involved with B&N?

Goes to show that corporations are allowed to rob us blind but if we turn the table then we get imprisonment, and fined. I think its time we the people start standing up. Or go a head and lay down our rights and just let them do what ever they want because after all they are what matters the most right. I mean this society has already branded us.

I see this as an outrage and we the people should shut B&N down if they are going to practice this type of business.

So Are you going to stand up or lay flat on your back? Me I'm standing.

That doesn't seem like a fair business practice at all!

As old fashioned as it might seem, I still prefer paper books because you can go to sleep with them on your lap, and not worry about batteries. You can loan them out or give them away, or sell them back, or keep them forever, if that is your choice.
If your electricity goes out, you can still read them in the daytime, and by booklight at night. There is something so satisfying about turning the pages, and moving your pretty silver bookmark as you read. I will be sad when paper books are obsolete!

I think this is a shame... and it reminds me of a month or so ago when a Kindle user had their device wiped by Amazon and Amazon wouldn't say why...

And my last (and only) itunes music purchase was when they had DRM on the music... I could pay an additional $2 (or however much it was) to remove the DRM... or I could just burn the CD to disk and re-import it....

It really is a shame because I don't think that DRM free ebooks are a bad idea... it would mean that Amazon and B&N could compete with each other in a better way...

All this makes me :(

DRM hurts the good guy. Plain and simple. Hell. You can barely install software on more then one computer. Ridiculous.

I was thinking of buying a nook hd

Reasons why all Barnes & Nobles are going out of business. This will only hasten their downfall.

Oh well, another corporate giant, once corporate giant i should say, bites the dust.

The only reason why the big corporations were given such freedom is because we let it happen. The time for action was before it became a problem, not after. But most of us can't be bothered to make an effort to protect the freedoms that a whole lot of blood was spilled to attain.

Instead of complaining here, why not write your elected representatives in government? The next time you buy a new electronic toy and/or media, set aside some money to donate to watchdog groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation. If you don't take action, nobody will.
