Help most youtube videos not working after update

cant play a single youtube video, ive just been havin problem after problem with this phone.. dunno if i should get exchanged for the moto droid now :( very dissapointed in customer support from verizon AND htc. someone give me reason to keep this phone besides how it looks

100% agree with you...problem after problem and I'm really starting to think the only good thing is how it looks. I might just have to live with an ugly/heavy Moto Droid just because it actually WORKS! P-d off

I tried the YouTube app on the phone and only one video I tried wouldn't play..but that's still unacceptable.

Same problem here... I can't seem to get any videos to play the first time. I have been able to get them to play after several attempts but it's quite annoying... and no high-quality. One video took me about 15 attempts to get it to work.

I find it really annoying that companies issue these "updates" that cause more problems than they fix. Before the update I had no issues... now, I can't view youtube videos and, for some reason, when I take my phone out of sleep mode, instead of going right to my home screen, I see the HTC logo and then I get the waiting icon for about 30 seconds. Very annoying.

I was able to view videos after the upgrade....for a while.

Now I can't view any of them. Will try cache, battery pull, WiFi vs. 3G, etc.

This pisses me off.

Anyone call VZW yet? I will tomorrow. And I already replaced the phone once. I'm going to make a big stink if they don't have an explanation. Like a big credit or something. I'm already past the 30 days but there's already a note in the system that I can bring it back because I am dissatisfied.

sucks dont it, went to verizon store and pretended i was hyped when i saw the youtube app on the eris (knowing it wouldn't work because it doesn't in stores either) .. he thinks he's got a sale going and end up not being able to run one video off the app, tried multiple phones, none worked. he said it'll be back up tomarrow, its just youtube.. i looked at him like this phone is broke while i brought up every youtube video in the app on the moto droid.. sad ;o\

LMFAO!!!! stupid rep! I'm so pissed, i REALLY love my eris but all these bugs are making me want to get rid of it! Sucks...

I actually couldn't take it any longer...returned my 3rd (yes THIRD) Eris on Friday....they kept trying to give me a new phone thinking it would fix the many issues I was having..but no such luck.
Was going to get the Droid..but then decided to wait it out a few weeks to see what January brings (new Android phones, etc.)...

Seems like I remember going to youtube in the browser and it use to ask me which to use, HTC Flash or Youtube to watch the video. Now from the web browser, at the youtube site, the videos default to using the HTC flash app.

I wonder if there is some sort of conflict resulting from conflicts with certain types of media and an associated app?

Probably not. I can confirm that when I start to watch a low-res video, it will start fine, but when I click menu and watch in high res, it says it can play the video.

I usually play videos over wifi and it always works. I just tested with Mobile Network on, wifi off and nope, they don't play. Can't play video. I then tested with tunewiki and it will search YouTube, but it doesn't get a giant list of results for some reason, and it will play the video, but it's not real clear. Next, I used Dolphin Browser and searched the songs on YouTube. I clicked the video and you have to select Download, HTC Flash or YouTube. Well, YouTube gave the same error. HTC Flash only loaded the YouTube logo on the bottom right of the screen. Download saved the file somewhere (I found it on /sdcard/download heheh that was easy). When it finished the download, I clicked on it and it's showing really nice and clear video. The download was really slow though. While it's playing the video, you can tap the screen and you get a seek/pause bar.

I resisted the update and now i have this issue, among other things. I shouldn't have done it. Damn it.

dont hate yourself, even tho this update really screwed with the phones youtube, at least we know they are working on the phone. all we're lacking is some positive reassurance from the companies here and more people wouldn't be in such a rush to return this badass phone.

It works randomly for me... most of the time at work I won't be able to get most to play, even after trying several times. Today at home, however, I got most to play after the 2nd try. I'm thinking it might have something to do with your signal and the demand on the network at the moment you try to play a video. Weird...

on mine, using 3g, it takes about 4-5 tries to get a vid working, but then when it does its in normal quality. when i try to switch to high, it says not working again. so probably takes about 8-10 tries to get 1 vid to work in HQ. however, i did try the "switching to wifi" option, and i played about 10 videos, all in HQ, with no problem. i only had 1 video come up saying it wouldnt play. i'd reaaaaaaaally like to not have to switch to wifi everytime i wanna use the youtube app. plus, when i went thru the browser (touch site), you don't get the option to play in HQ which sucks. so, yeah, weird......

i posted this in another forum too, but it's not just YouTube...I tried playing a movie preview video in the Where app. Works fine in normal mode, but if trying to switch to HD then it can't play the video. Is it something with the phone's HD video upscaling capabilities?

the thing is that it seems to be completely random. keep trying the same video and it will likely work. Hd, standard, mobile web or wifi doesn't seem to matter. Videos also open in high quality now and they did not do this when I first got the phone.

i hope they fix this soon, i can't stand watching these videos in such poor quality. i need the HD to work so i can actually see the video.
