Help Motion Sensor

Ok so recently my screen cracked, and after that, when I went to make a phone call the screen would go black which I think always happened before when I put phone to my ear. But before whenever I moved the phone the screen would come back up. After the screen cracked most of the time it would stay black and I could not do anything, I have to pull the battery out or it would stay connected til the other party hung up.
So I replaced the screen and it seemed to be working fine but now I noticed it just did the same thing, I could not get the screen back up when I made a call. Anyone know what can be causing this?

No when it goes black the power button does not turn the screen on if I am on a call. Either the other party has to hang up or I have to pull the battery.

OK did some research on the proximity sensor, d/l'ed an app to test the sensor and it showed it not working, proximity shows 0.00 inches which makes phone think it's next to your ear, thus keeping screen off.
I took it apart again and made sure nothing was blocking sensor and wiped it clean and then everything worked good for a few mins, now it's intermittently working. Not sure if it's a sensor or software issue but squeezing phone behind sensor or gently twisting it sometimes makes it work so it appears like a calibration issue or something is loose or mis aligned.
I noticed quite a few people also having the same issues with HTC phones on the web, but with no real solution found.

Also found no way to disable proximity sensor or an app to override it.
