Moto Atrix or iPhone 4

Chao Feng

Newbie
So moto just introduced Atrix a couple of days ago. This cell looks kinda cool, with 2 cores and capable of being used as a laptop. Now i got confused which one i should get, iphone 4 introduced by Verizon or Atrix?

I've learned my lesson with Motorola. They aren't built to last and generally are configured poorly for the software they support. I'd recommend sticking with iPhone 4. You get much better cell service that way.

wow...iPhone fan here....I would say the Atrix, but you will be stuck on the AT&T network. The iPhone 4 will lock you into a 2 year contract and you wont be able to upgrade until 18 months now instead of the every year like it used to be.

Personally, I have had all of the the iPhones and need a change. I'm a huge Moto fan from all the way back in the MicroTAC days.
Nothing wrong with a Motorola at all.
I think most of the problems with AT&T and the iPhone is the iPhone itself. With other phones, the network is fine.

I can't wait for the ATRIX. First phone I have been excited about in a long time.

From the point of view of someone who has used an iPod Touch for almost a year and an android for less then a month,

I would recommend you go for the Atrix OR wait for the iPhone 5.

IMO the iPhone is easier to use and the keyboard + auto correct is better for typing.
IMOO (in my other opinion) The android is twice as fast, twice the cores, bigger screen, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more customisable.

If you want it for a phone, go iPhone. If you want to mod, theme, play round with, go the android :D

You should be comparing it to a 2011 phone instead of a 2010 phone, which means you should be comparing Atrix against iPhone 5 instead, which we all know will be coming out this summer.

Apple are always about six months behind the better Android phones. For example, they still have no widgets or live wallpapers and are only now getting proper tethering. They will never get anything as cool as that Atrix dock. Never.

My advice? Get the Atrix now, or wait for the iPhone 6. Or possibly 7.

I won't bet on that dock if I am you.

The atrix is a high end Android phone while the iPhone 4... well its not exactly high end. But that doesn't mean its a bad phone. The Verizon iPhone is mostly for people who already wanted an iPhone but didn't like att.

Comparing the atrix to the iPhone, is funnily enough like comparing apples to oranges lol

i dont see its funny. Apples to Oranges? Whats this supposed to mean? iphone4 is a high end cell. Do we have any other cells with ios system and not from apple?

Personally I would go with the Atrix (despite MotoBlur). I have the Captivate and hubby has the iPhone4 and I do not have phone envy. I love widgets and the many different launchers out on the market. I can change the look of my phone everyday if I want to. The big thing for me is customization. The iPhone you can change the lockscreen and the background/wallpaper, to me that just isn't enough.

All depends on what you want from a phone really, if you want simplicity and ease of use go apple if you want customization and different hardware choices go android

Even though that's kind of a broad statement it's generally true.

The thing that's interesting about the two phones is their strengths are also their weaknesses.

Apple for example is a single company producing both the OS and hardware. So you get longer cycles between hardware and have limited choices (new phones, only 3GS or 4). However, that means there's a much fewer platforms to target (from a development perspective), so the OS is really tight and highly optimized for the hardware.

It also means a simpler channel for support - if your hardware or OS have issues, you can walk into an Apple store. With my Captivate, I'm dealing with a phone built by Samsung, running an open source OS by Google, which is subsequently modified by both Samsung AND AT&T.

Apple controls the apps rigidly on the iPhone (so no side loading, apps that Apple doesn't think are "appropriate" aren't made available), however that means their UIs are [more] consistent, and their control ALSO extends to the service provider which means no bloatware installed OOTB.

Etc., etc. :)

I have owned an iphone for years and currently using the iphone 4. Before I bought the i4 I went and played with every phone I could get my hands on, used every phone a friend or family type person owned and just could not find one worthy of replacing my iphone.

I wasnt let down when I got my iphone 4 and my wife even got on board and bought herself one as well. Now, if I was a fanboy this reply would be the norm until right about here, because I am not a fanboy. Actually I F'ing hate apple products and their "im better than you" fanboy punks. It's just that as of right now I cant find a phone that is better than the iphone.

What I advice I can give to you is that while no one knows what the atrix can really do yeat I can tell you that the iphone is a great phone. Jail broken its just freaking amazing lol. I have never dropped a call with my iphone and its just handy to have around. It makes me sick to my stomach that I have to uphold a company I hate but honestly the only complaints I have with the iphone is the fanboys and hardcore apple fans who truly think ordinary people shouldnt be allowed to touch their blessed apple logo.

:) LOL... Nice!! that made me laugh

I've had an iphone all the way back to the 3g iphone, i then upgraded to the I4. It was a great phone, awesome screen and quick, I loved the web browsing on it and all the apps were great to. I was just tired of not having customization, no custom texts, always having to sync to a computer to change everything, no widgets, just got tired of feeling like I was being forced to do what apple wanted me to do. So I switched to android, I'm trying the 30 day free thing with sprint and I have an evo 4g right now but the battery is just sooo bad. I still have att service that I havent canceled yet and I'm trying to figure out if I should wait for the atrix.

I say try and what to here people reviews on the Atrix, if you can. (That will be the real test.) I have a backflip and the battery life is one day, 12 hrs. during normal use. I do listen to a lot of music, checking e-mail and reading news widgets. I have seen the specs. that the Atrix has about 9 yrs of talk time and a little over 10 days stand by time. This is really good if it holds true. Another thing is since it has duel processors, it's suppose to save battery life.

isn't that a bad question?
"should i buy this phone or wait some months for that phone?"
in some months there are always better or at least very interesting phones.

all of the more expensive phones today are fast enough to run smoothly every app that will come out in the next year. so for me specs doesn't matter.
important is that its android, so it's open and i can make more things with my phone. and that the phone hase something special like the curved screen from nexus s or the netbook-dock of the atrix...

I would never ever buy an iPhone. Look at the good old PC. Nearly every PC or Notebook runs with Windows, because neraly every programm is programmed for windows, because on nearly every pc is windows, because...

if u don't like apple and its politics you really should buy an android phone. so that programmes can earn money with android-apps otherwise they'll stuck on iphone and the whole mobile phone-world is doomed, dooooomed.

For me, the issue isn't customization. It's the ease with which the user can customize. If you jailbreak any iPhone, you get full access to the file system and can install whatever you want. Including a somewhat useless version of Android 2.2 on the iPhone 3G with a dual-boot. But what I like about Android (having never owned an Android device) is the openness of the devices out of the box. That said, I would be really mad if the Atrix doesn't have an unlocked bootloader, because I would really love to try out ROMs.

Back to what you really want to do with the phone. My wife and I are out of our contract and looking at new phones. She likes the iPhone which works for her because she makes phone calls, text and play an occasional game. Me on the other hand likes to mess with the phone's settings, use apps and occasionally make a call:rolleyes:. So I'm looking forward to jumping into the Android world with the Atrix.
