Help Moto Blur Email Client vs. HTC email Question

Just got a new Droid X, have been using the Droid Inc but gave it to my wife. I liked the Email Icon on the desk top that shows the number of unread emails (POP3 account)... Is there any way to get that type of email icon notification instead of on the Notification Bar?
OR, is there a better email client app?

There's a widget called 1x1 ultimate unread widget that will do this for rooted devices. Unfortunately it does not open the mail account on motorola devices but it does show the count.

There's an alternate free email client called "Improved email" that provides a widget that will show you unread emails. I reverted to this client because the motorola email client wasn't syncing exchange and imap accounts correctly for me.
