moto droid to not get 2.2

Ok, I didn;t see rooting from linux instructions in the forum and did a google search and found one that had steps to go back to a 2.01 rooted then upgrade to 2.1, then 2.2, seemed like a lot of steps to me. I'll search some more.

Yea, thats the one that I was reading:

How to Root from Linux

Under Construction

So when I googled for how to root from linux I find that it thinks I have to go back to 2.01 for some straneg reason.

Head over to the root section of the forums to get more clear answers, but you shouldn't have too. If you are flashing an .sbf file you can use that same 2.1 file in that thread I listed.

Even if VZW said they'll give me an X for my DROID, I'd look at them, laugh in their faces...and then, quietly ask "Do I get to keep my DROID?"

If they said yes, I'd laugh maniacally as I sold the X on eBay and continued to use my DROID....

If they said no, I'd look them right in the eyes and say "You can take my DROID from my cold, stiff fingers, tyvm!" Oh, and then I'd (of course) laugh maniacally.

lol!!!

+1 master plan!!!

Can we change the name of this thread its very misleading because the is most deifinately getting 2.2

I've been thinking the same thing for several days, pretty much since it was first posted. All the current 2.2 ROMs are based on builds made at Motorola for the Droid so it's ridiculous to think it won't get 2.2. Blame everyone who keeps bumping it to the first page :p

+1, lol

someone post the Flash APK

I can't find one

You must be rooted AND running a 2.2 Froyo ROM to run flash. Flash will not run on anything but 2.2 and higher. If you are running a 2.2 Foryo ROM, you will be able to find flash in the market.

Im running BB 0.4

I rooted last night, downloaded sbf_flash and made it executable then ./sbf_flash SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf power on the phone holding down the camera and volume down and it booted and flashed that. Then get the update.zip from update.zip and put it on the sd card, power off and power on while holding down x and installed that. That root flash came from the quoted text in the root thread post #3 http://androidforums.com/all-things...-currently-under-construction.html#post780720

I was on the phone two days ago with a verizon tech working out an issue with my email and - for what it is worht ?? - he said the moto droid will get 2.2 probably sometime in August but that the droid x would get it first.

Even when Gingerbread is released, I bet even money that a dev out there is going to take the AOSP and compile it specifically for the DROID, including an OC kernel so that Gingerbread will work.

Have patience, young grasshoppers - FroYo is coming to the DROID.

Yes, it is. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be any of the 4-5 different RC releases for rooted users. Having said that, I'm not worried about it since I've had it for almost 2 months now ;).

If you are rooted, you shouldn't be worried about anything. The G1, which is almost two years old now, has 2.2. Go look up the specs on the G1 and, again, remember it has 2.2. A ROM, of course, but 2.2 nonetheless.

By owning a Droid, you own a "tier-one" Google phone which means updates should be out, lickety-split and with no delay on Google's behalf. VZW is run by morons so they constantly bring own their infrastructure when they push out 10MB updates to 10 million people at once.

What I'm saying is the Droid has another year of being able to handle newer firmware. It probably won't be the official release, since the specs of 3.0 kinda cut off before the Droid can get in, but if the ROM is modified to allow the non-1Ghz CPU to use 3.0, I think the Droid will be fine.

If not, there will always be the ROM scene to help out. :)
