Moto G availability

Does anybody have any news on weather these phones are going to be hard to get ahold of for the first few weeks/ months? I haven't found anything with google. I'm just wondering if there's been any official word on whether Motorola and Amazon will be able to fulfill the preorders (and more). Trying to work out if i should order now or if I can wait a few more days.

I'm planning on buying 3 of these, one for myself and one for my Mom and girlfriend respectively. I'd like ordering to be as seamless as possible. I'm not a big fan of giving a company my money before I have any clue as to when they'll actually ship my item. I saw that they're claiming that weather across the country has delayed shipping but I wonder by how long...

Oh, also - does anybody know if it is better to order from Motorola directly or Amazon? I know amazon will charger sales tax to most states, I wonder if Motorola will do the same?

I ordered one from Amazon (8Gb US GSM) last Friday and it should be arriving this Friday. No sales tax and free shipping (Amazon Prime). Not sure what their stock is right now but everyday another glowing review comes out for it so I think demand is going to go up considerably. I'd jump on it soon. Can't speak for ordering it from Moto though.

I ordered one last Friday from Motorola and they did charge about $15 in sales tax, free 2 day shipping. With the weather warning, who knows how long it may take. I see Motorola is holding $1.10 for the phone, I suspect they will take out the full amount once the phone ships.

No, the phone does not offer expandable storage. I got the 16gb one.

That's very helpful, thank you all for the replies. I'll probably order tonight when I get back from work.

I just became aware of the fact that it doesn't ship with a wall charger. How are you guys going to deal with that when there's not a usb outlet available? Are there wall chargers available for the Moto G yet? Also, if you're charging via a non powered USB port will it not take a very long time to charge the phone?

Thanks for pointing that out. I think I had just assumed that it came with a travel charger. I went to the web site and saw that it says it comes with a USB cable but no mention of a charger.

8GB? Wowzers, I hope it's got expandable storage at least.

Ya must have not read my previous posts. Moto G will be a simply media device for me at work; and at best, a trial for GSM phone through T-Mobile. :)
(But yeah, as a main driver or a tablet, I'd never make that mistake again. A nandroid on my 8GB N7 is ~2gb)

Hi alfick3, yep, seems that it doesn't include a charger, just a USB cable. Quite a serious omission in my opinion. I typically charge my phone at night on my bedside table. If I have to look at a $30+ charger for it it might be worth reconsidering a Nexus 5...

I'm bleeding charging cables and blocks so it's no problem for me.
If you see MKBHD's review of the Moto G, it's the first thing he mentions about how Moto drove the price down (omission of a charging block).
And those cables and blocks can be had for less than $10 on Amazon. :)

Yeah, I'm worrying less about a charging block now. I think I was leading myself down the rabbit hole on that one with worrying about compatibility issues etc.

Now the biggest problem seems to be availability - Amazon site says the handset usually ships in 4-6 weeks!!!

I wish there was a way to check availability through Motorola's website.

Ok, well I ordered 3 of them this morning from the Motorola site. Decided not to go with Amazon as it said they normally ship in 4-6 weeks and I've been a bit disappointed with Amazon's shipping speed in the past anyway. Motorola includes free 2 day shipping. In my confirmation email they state that "due to high demand it may take 5-7 days to ship". We'll see what happens...

Now I need to find compatible charging blocks and possibly longer USB cables for them, the previous few phones I've had have all shipped with ridiculous 2-3' cables which unless leaving them right by the outlet are pretty useless. Someone linked to some chargers on amazon in another thread, I'll have to go check those out now.

We are getting rain at the moment and they are calling for around 1-3 inches of snow by 9pm tonight. Current tempeture is about 32 degrees. I hope this doesn't delay any shipping time for me.
Motorola have taken the full payment amount from my account. So I hope it come by Monday.

Order a Moto G from Motorola on Thanksgiving day. Got it yesterday US 16GB version. Did not play with it much since it is a gift for my son for Christmas and I want it to still have the "new car" smell.:D

I am thinking about getting one for my daughter too and I noticed Amazon has all 4 flavors in stock for immediate shipping. Not sure how long that will last but I might pull the trigger soon on a 2nd.

Seems like a great phone from all the glowing reviews. I am sure my Son (and maybe Daughter) will love it.

for charger. I bough a number of these a year ago from a seller on Amazon. They are very small, cheap and work great.

Charger link...
That's all you need is one of those blocks. I'll save the link just in case. I've been charging my G with my Strat's charger. It's a pretty good charger and the G charges fast using it.

Excellent! Thank you very much for the link. It looks just like the one I was planning on getting from ebay. Good stuff.

So you got your Moto G?

Quick question about that charger, what's the mA output? As an example, my LG Motion needs a charger that will put out 1 Amp. My car charger only puts out 75 mA do the Motion slow charges when I plug it in, in the car.

Best I can tell the charger is 750mA. Works fine with my nexus 7 and my wife Moto X and my kids older Android phones. I think this is the charger Motorola shipped with the original Droid Razr with LTE a couple years ago.

Thanks. Yeah, 750 mA, not 75 :) Ok, so I would need to keep using my motion charger.

Yes, I got mine yesterday (Friday) around 3pm. FedEx dropped it off, I was surprised, the website was still showing Not Shipped!

In the other topic on first impressions I wrote a little about it.

One came with my Droid Maxx ... the label on the wall plug side says ... Output 5.0A -- 1150mA . It has a different model number. It is a two plug block and is solid black. It looks different than the picture.

Looking at the specs for my Samsung Stratosphere phone, all I could find about the battery was this:

  • Capacity:1800 mAh. Is this the charger's voltage capacity or whatever it's called?
Samsung Stratosphere full specs

That's the size of the battery. Generally speaking phones/tablets with larger batteries "prefer" a higher output charging block. If I used my phone's charger for my old TF tablet, it would take days to charge. My G2 also informs me if I use a lower output one as well (but it still charges).
