Moto G, I thought I could?

Hey, I thought I could save some money and buy myself a Moto G. So I bought one off ---------- Unlocked. I thought you could pretty much pick your carrier and have them activate it. I guess I was wrong:confused:. Went around the local carriers, they said nope can't activate it unless you bought it from us. WHAT? So with straight talk(from what I understand) I can go with one of two different carriers which neither have very good coverage in my area. I bought a Moto G 16 gig unlocked with no sim card installed. I thought a local company could install and put me on a prepaid deal. Was I totally wrong? I need some help or I just wasted 200.00. Thanks for any information you all can give. I'm tech challenged so you will have to make it simple for me:o

Welcome to the forums, untechnosavy! :hello:
Do you know exactly which model you ordered? If not, you can find it under settings.
What carrier are you trying to use?
My GSM American unlocked I got from Amazon I was able to use with a T-Mobile SIM directly at the store. If you're having problems with service staff, you may want to talk to someone else.

I got the global GSM 16 Gb model. T-mobile and at&t are about the only 2 options I have found and unfortunately neither have a very good network in my area.

So if I had the US version which carriers could I pick from?

I think just Tmobile or AT&T still. I do not believe Verizon or Sprint will activate phone you do not buy from them. I know Virgin Mobile will not. I beieve Boost Mobile will not.

I would return the phone, ask aorund different carriers auntil you get it sorted out, and then buy it again

But wait hold on to your hat and gloves it looks like a fix is being put out over the air . this is going on over sea . I seen a post on here today about this

It should work with any carrier that uses Tmobile or AT&T's network. If you was to buy one from Verizon or Boost then it would work with their networks, which I think is CDMA. I'm not sure you would be able to switch down the road using one of the last two.

I'm not, and to be honest I think my month's worth of T-Mobile is up and not sure if I'll pay for another one. So, it's back to being just a media player for me.

You might want to check into Net10 or TracPhone. I believe both of those are GSM. Couldn't hurt...

Peace,
Sox

Does anyone have any more information on this?

I am fascinated by this phone and the few reviews I've read. To answer you question I'm with PagePlus and asked about it on their facebook page and they said I would have to go with VZW for 6 month and they "think" they will unlock it and I could go with who I choose. I am still trying to find the truth out on this. I'll let you know when I know for sure and buy my phone.:)

Check out kitty wireless forums. Two professional flashers on there have figured out how to make the boost version work on page plus.

The boost model is $80-100 at various resellers (target, bestbuy, newegg).
