Hi DR, I moved your thread to the main Moto G forum since your question is not about root. 
I don't believe any Moto G model is officially rated to be water resistant, but the 2013 Moto G model has youtube vids showing it still works after getting wet.

Moto G (1st Gen.) features liquid repellent nano-coating technology, so I would say it's splash-proof at least. I think that's one of the reasons why the battery is not removable.
Erica Griffin tested it btw. It survived being submerged under water for 30 minutes.

I saw that 30 min. video when I got my 1st gen. Moto G.
A few weeks later, I took my phone in the pool to take pictures of the family having fun, the phone got splashed, but was fine. Then I figured I'd test whether or not it was water-resistant, and I dunked it under the surface for a second. The phone seemed okay, until I tried making a call.... the person on the other end could hear me, but I couldn't hear them. I panicked. But after about fifteen minutes, the phone was just fine, and worked like normal.
Don't be stupid like me and deliberetly try to test it, but take comfort knowing that it will most likely be okay if your drop it in the toilet.
