Help moto symbol frozen on screen

Hello all. i just picked up my first X tonight. I got home and an update notification popped up to update my phone. I said yes. Now i can get the phone to get off a black screen w/ a while moto symbol. I have done a battery pull too. no luck. What's the deal???? Thanks.

1. pull battery, wait five minutes, then start
2. pull battery, put phone in fridge for 5 minutes (not kidding), then start
3. pull battery, start phone, then pull immediately before SD card mounted

When I had issues after the 2.2 update, #1 worked consistently for me. I've seen #2 and #3 on other forums.

Once you get your phone booted, do a factory reset.
