Moto Tritumph experience

Well the Verdict is...

Lg Optimus V= D-

Motorola Triumph= C+

This is actually a pretty good phone except

1)The Screen does flicker quite a bit...and even more so when I am navigating through the homescreen, menu and it evens does it when I am in stock apps(Mail, Messaging, Contacts)

2)Signal

As i stated I live in a rural town....Which means with my Optimus V had horrid coverage. My bars would show 1 or no bars(but i still have signal....just bad signal)

With the triumph--I have No bars to No signal(So bad coverage to no coverage).

The Wifi strength is not the best either, especially when the router is sitting right beside me.

My Optimus V, My Dad's Iphone, My Mother's Sprint Hero and My brother's Intercept show a much better wifi signal. Even my sisters cheapo blackberry has stronger signal.

Now this phone performs better in the Major Cities(Raleigh, NC & Chapel Hill, NC). I was at NC State helping my sister moved in and this in the actual city of raleigh

My Optimus V= Perfect Coverage
My Triumph= 3-4 Bars.

Now where this phone excels is the awesome ass camera. I have literally been doing nothing but taking pictures of myself, random things in nature...i actually went for a walk today. From using a crap camera on the Optimus V...I've missed a great camera phone such as the triumph.

Motorola makes great cameras.

It is also fast and I can safely say I have little to no lag...The Optimus V is a snail.
Triumph performs great...and I do not miss force closures.

The Screen real estate= :) :) :) :): ) :)
Enough said lol

Verdict:
The Biggest issue with my Optimus V was the delay in the text messages. It's not just the optimus...it's the Triumph as well...Which leads me to believe it's not the hardware but Virgin.

I Can't send pictures to iphone customers still= Virgin

I will probably be returning the phone(i'll keep it till my birthday because i refuse to use the Optimus V) and I'll ask my parents to get me something on the lines of this phone.

But I do recommend this phone for people...If you are looking for an awesome phone and you live in a GREAT coverage area, then buy all means get this phone.

I am very disappointed that I will not be able to keep it because it is a great phone with a few issues but the signal quality of the phone and the fact that I live in a rural area(It's so rural...We have to drive like 15 minutes to grocery store and like another 25-30 minutes to get to the actual city for restaurants, malls, movies, clubs, etc.) and it performs even worse in rural areas than my Optimus is a dealbreaker.

So i may be putting both the Triumph and My 25 dollar plan on ebay/Craigslist and probably selling my LG Optimus V(idk how much to charge for that)
so if you know anybody interested...Let me know lol

and any suggestions as to what phone i should look at on other carriers that perform as well as the Triumph?

Very good review, the big issue here is the WIFI, i also had a ipodtouch 4G with N,and the speeds and range has outperformed any of these VM smartphones, hell i have fixed 4 year laptops with better WIFi then these phones, no excuse for any phone that is 300 + dollars

YOUR phone flickers, MINE does not. :P return it, you have a bad one.

just switched to triumph from optimus v and have nothing but great things to say...sorry but all the neg stuff i ve read s far i havent had any of that...maybe it was just the first batch of phones..

Haha thanks :) and i am not sure if i have the first, second or whatever batch of the phones. I probably have a second batch as the phone has been out for like a month. The screen flicker thing has gotten worse. It's hard to explain but like half the screen is black when i power it on. As for radio signal, Virgin/Sprint really needs to incorporate that airave box that Sprint owners can use to boost their signals. Not only would it retain a lot of customers but it may persuade other people to leave competitors(Cricket, Metro)

Or maybe you just haven't had your Triumph long enough. Small sample size, I'd say. My wife's had her phone for over a week now and despite how happy she was to get a "touch screen phone" even she's willing admit there are flaws. Don't be so quick to dismiss.

Ive had my MT for a month. Came over from an Intercept - I love the MT. Great phone for only $25 a month service...:p

These people get so defensive over these phones, it's amazing to say the least. You'd think it was their child or something you were criticizing haha

I always say, just because you don't see the problem NOW, that makes it worse when you discover the problems later aka when you can't return it anymore.

Honestly, if the signal was not so shoddy, i'd be willing to go to BB and get another one or just deal with the screen flicker.

25 bucks a month +A High-end phone(Aside from lack of 4g, Android 2.3 and dual core)= A Very happy Micah.

I may still return the device because I will be going to school in New Jersey and I'll have perfect coverage...but with the three months off in the summer and i do come home often, I am not even sure if i should exchange it for another and keep the replacement.

Damn you, Virgin for making it hard to leave you and your awesome plan!

I get great coverage in NJ,3g data speeds could be better, but i have no dropped calls,or non working data,i returned my truimph and went back to the V because the GPS and Wifi where not up to my standards, but everything else worked good.

Yeah I got decent coverage at my school, Rowan University.
It's just when I am home in North Carolina is the problem :/

I must say, after finding a few dollars in the cushions, I bought a Triumph. not at all impressed. Until I set it up and say that large screen. Old eyes appreciate it. Much faster than other phones I own and I am quite pleased.

I have not noticed the issues posted here, but it is still charging. I'll know after a week of use.

I don't at all understand what you're trying to say. How can you be unimpressed when you haven't it used it? If you are basing your impressions in an in-store demo of the phone, why buy the phone in the first place?

haha, I had all of the same problems you described.
The phone was pretty awesome at first, then the flickering issue started happening after about a week, then the USB drivers failed (software issue I presume) a week later, plus the phone I got had a bad connection to the USB for any charger (including the cable provided with the phone).

I live in Dallas metroplex, and where I live I get almost no coverage, the phone is great for calls, I didn't have one dropped call, but that was all the phone was good for, well that, and texting. :(

Bottom line, nice spec'd phone riddled with software issues, sigh-
I expected better for $300.

Hopefully Issacs can keep pushing for a kernel source and fix most of these issues and then I may consider buying another MT. :D

If not, Sprint is becoming very tempting with the Photon 4G (rootable), and soon to be released Epic Touch 4G (Within?) ;)

Simple . . . the phone's technical specifications are not all that amazing; the Triumph is not a world beater. It is a great device so far. I was not initially impressed; there are faster phones with large screens.

I refuse to buy a contract because I know something will come along that I want and I do not want to pay to get out of a contract.

The fact I was not initially impressed does not mean the phone is crap or underpowered or not a great deal.

After picking one up, charging it, and setting it up, I became rather impressed. It was more than I thought it would be for the money. Especially the faster processor, increased memory, and larger screen.

My opinion of the device has grown, the more I look at it and use it.

There was no demo, and I did not see one in action before I bought mine. I had to go on reviews and the published technical specifications. I discovered a gem in the no-contract world. I bought one because I thought the large screen would be easier for me.

After using it for a few hours, I also appreciate that things happen faster. Even the stock android keyboard is easier to use than on other devices like my Zio.

Clear it up for you?

Bob

Well explained, but please understand that the post of your's that I was responding to didn't make a lot of sense. Go back and read your post. ;)

LOL @Bob

But yea...Not sure if i would go back to Sprint. I had a Kyocera Echo, great phone just bad carrier...hate Sprint and their customer service.

I may go to T-mobile...My birthday is next wednesday so i have a week to decide.

59.99 a month is NOT bad at all.
only five more than what i'd pay with Virgin...only downside is a contract...

Unless, I just ask them to get the sensation at full price and do prepaid for 50 bucks a month, which would be 5 books cheaper than Virgin.

Decisions Decisions

I used to be on a T-mobile family plan about 2 years ago.
My phone was basically useless where I live.
That was pre-Android, and back then I was using the Samsung Behold.
Pretty decent phone back then.

I like T-mobile's lineup but their new overage policy has turned me away.
The Sensation looks pretty nice imo.
If the At&t merger goes through, I don't like T-mobile's chances of remaining competitive with Sprint, just my two cents.

Looking for OV to MT "experienced" users. I'd really like to buy the Triumph, just want to know one thing. Is the display really that much better than the Optimus? All the uTube videos I watch with the 2 sitting side by side, the MT looks washed out, or colors just look duller. My OV is bright at 30% brightness, very clear with very good colors, just "small".

Also, with the bigger screen on the MT, is default text (like icons) bigger or just higher resolution? I ask this because I bought a Acer 7" tab the other day "thinking" the 7" display would be "huge" compared to my OV. I was surprised that text actually looked smaller and less readable. It also had terrible viewing angles so I returned it. I just don't want to "risk" buying the MT with all its "potential" issues, if the display isn't MUCH better (the only reason I would buy it in the 1st place).

I have found both the battery and the signal to be deceiving on this phone (but in a good way). It seems that the signal being show is worse than it actually is, I get better signal with the MT, than I did with the intercept. The other deceiving thing with this phone is the battery. It seems to drop fairly quickly to 50%, then after that it drops very slowly. I took my phone off the charger at 7pm, and at 10pm I still had 23% battery left. The only complaint I have is the 3G speed seems to be slow, but I will try updating the PRL later.
