Motorola ATRIX a technological breakthrough!!

That monster, will need that beefy battery, to compensate for the power hungry dual core processor, and the gig of ram, because ultimately the more power the device has, the more power the device will need. no real way around that.

He was talking specifically about in hotel rooms, i.e., places where you can't reconfigure the whole setup, but might have access to an HDMI connector.

I'm assuming that either there's a HDMI output (with micro-HDMI port) or you can use the dock.

Exactly. Phone+HDMI+a nice sized memory card and i can bring movies to watch on the 42inch flat screens in hotels without having to try and pack a DVD player or buy a new lap top with an HDMI out. (the work lap top i HAVE to carry doesnt have one and i am against carrying 2 lap tops when i travel so i have not bothered updated from my 2+ year old dual core lap top).

Believe it or not.....an HDMI ouput could actually persuade me to buy an Atrix over the infuse (something so simple but let me tell you..$14.99 for movie rentals in room is beyond ridiculous). (2 movies a week would run me $120 a month not counting taxes. I could GO SEE 2 a week at the movies for $48.00 a month at the fork and screen resturant and theather for GODS SAKE. (only $6 a ticket since they make their money by being a resturant)). What i usually do is watch them on my gtabs 10inch screen while wearing a pair of blue tooth head phones but hooking into the tv = a BIG WIN for me while traveling.

I did not quite understand your answer. Were you saying the inspire SHOULD have this ability also (i know this is the atrix forum).

I don't think it's proportional though since much of the phone's power already goes to driving the screen. Doubling the cpu chip would probably result is 0-20% more power usage, depending what's being run and how smart they are about keeping non-essential circuits shutdown.

Also, from everything I have read, dual and quad core processors are actually MORE efficient with power than single-core ones. A CPU is not quite like a physical motor, where you need double the energy to move twice the mechanisms. There are no moving parts in a CPU, only digital switches. A dual-core processor could conceivably take less power to accomplish your tasks than a single-core because it can run twice the amount of tasks that a single-core can in the same amount of time, but it doesn't use twice the amount of power because it just needs a trickle of power to flip the switches and perform the calculations.

Because the processor takes less time for each task, that would allow for more idle time where significantly less power is required by the processor, and if you are just accomplishing a set amount of tasks, if you finish faster you are not required to have the phone's screen on as long.

Some times yes and some times no. At full throttle it WILLuse more power. At times doing mundane tasks it MIGHT be capable of using less,

Its analagous to the new V8 5.0 that CAN get 26 mpg compared to older v6s that only get 24. But only at a designed RPM range. Put your foot in it and that modern 5.0 is going to suck way more gas than that old v6.

A dual core is going to use less power at certain engineered tasks. Open it up 100% with a mulit-threaded game or flash program and watch the battery go bye.

DLNA spec'ed services, DMS, DMP, etc., are implemented at the application level, so while there may not be a DLNA compliant client/server on the phone OOTB, just add iMedia or one of several apps and you should be good to go with sharing or consuming media via DLNA.

Thats good for the Atrix peeps :)
